Would like to leave BT broadband but keep phone service

Hello,

I am being absolutely ripped off by BT for bundled broadband and phone (nearly 800 quid a year!). I would like to keep my BT landline and its number, but I would like to ditch the broadband service and go with another provider. I'm outside the UK most of the time so I'm not sure what the current state of play is 'on the ground'.

Anyone got any good advice? Is this practical? It seems people like the Post Office are offering broadband for about 250 quid a year for an 11 Mbit/s service.

Thank you for any advice.

  • Why stay with BT at all Now Broadband were doing superfast fibre 68 plus unlimited anytime/mobile calls for £30 a month 12 month contract plus £90 cashback via Quidco......other companies doing similar deals over the last few weeks

Have you tried negotiating a better deal ?, £66 a month is what you say you pay, which is probably the out of contract price, it should be easy to reduce that by at least half ( £33 ) and depending on what you want probably even less than that, obviously you would commit to a new minimum term, but move provider would also come with a minimum term.

If you don’t want to consider negotiating with BT, I think you probably misunderstand the way the industry is structured , it’s an Openreach cable to your home ( not BT ) and other providers apart from BT can use this OR ‘local loop’ to provide you with service, phone, broadband or both, it should also be possible to take the phone number with you to another company , so you don’t need to keep a ‘BT’ line, but you (probably) do need a company that (like BT) use OR ‘lines’

We have a BT landline and WISP (?) internet.

If you are out of the country a lot, maybe a PAYG 4G system would be better?

If you are out of BB contract then cancel the BB component .
BT line rental is circa £20 pm .
Not sure what you have as BB but i pay LR + £3 for 80/20 BT broadband .
