Are you happy with your supplier - and do they require a smart meter?

We've used Pure Planet for over a year now and are very happy, but apparently it is better value if your household uses a larger than average amount of energy.
We haven't needed to change because twice they have re-negotiated a new supply rate on the open market which has resulted in a reduction in the price we are paying without having to change tarrif.
They are 100% Green too if that matters to you.
Only "downside" is they are app-based only, but that works fine for us.• The rich buy assets.
 • The poor only have expenses.
 • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.0

Having a browse around and i think i'll make the return to Tonik. I was quite happy with them before and only left for the price as the deal came to an end. Obviously i got the British Gas thing wrong.
There's always one :shhh:Are you happy with your supplier - and do they require a smart meter?
 Yes No
 What a marvellous contribution.0

Yes we're happy - with So Energy (Stingray)
No they haven't needed (or pushed for) a smart meter. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0

We're very pleased with YourEnergy Sussex, which is part of Robin Hood Energy. They had a very competitive tariff and we've been with them for over a year now.
I informed them when we switched to them that I have no intention of having a smart meter installed and subsequently haven't heard a word from them about it. A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0 A cunning plan, Baldrick? They may have had a very competitive tariff, but sadly not today.
Based on an average user, they are over 25% more expensive than the cheapest offering. Their daily standing charges are quite high, and their unit charges are nothing special.
e.g. Your Energy Sussex Two Year fixed with exit fee V2 (their cheapest for an average user)
 Electricity:
 15.657 pence per kWh
 23.695 pence per day
 Gas
 3.186 pence per kWh
 31.545 pence per day
£30 per fuel early exit fee applies.
Same tariff available from Ebico (also supplied by RHE) or direct from RHE.
The advantage of these is they also supply outside of Sussex (but prices may vary slightly by supply region)0

I don't agree; my tariff is
 Electricity
 Standing charge:19.32p per day
 Unit rate: 15.414p per kWh
 Fixed V4
I'm not very interested in "the average user"; I'm only giving my opinion of YourEnergy Sussex, which has been good for me.
I don't have any gas, so don't have to include that. Not only that, but I've found them efficient and had absolutely no problem with them (and they don't pester me to install a smart meter, which is almost more important.)A cunning plan, Baldrick? I'm wondering about British Gas -
I'm on a tariff where i need a smart meter. I haven't made any effort to book in for one.
 I'm 3-4 months in.
They haven't put me on a different tariff.
I don't imagine they'll let me ride this out for the full 12 months but at the same time i'm surprised they've let me get as far in to the term as i have done & they've still not done anything.0

NPower pretty much force you as at 20 months ago even opting out they still sent an installer 4 days after Christmas 2017.
Edf owned by French problem is been ripped off by them at changover time many many others do.
Best so far OutFox the Market cheapest by far about 15% cheaper than Bulb, all you have to do is submit meter readings monthly. The negatives were when they tried to enforce actual usage charges last year in other words you use more in winter so pay more, its back to average again earlier this year.
In the years we have been with most, bottom line they dont like you departing.0

Are you looking for Gas, elecricity or both?
For Gas, i'm currently with Zog, on my 2nd 2 year fixed contract with them and I've had no issues at all. They handled my switch from British Gas with no issues, moved over on the date they said and all i do is simply submit a monthly reading (when i can) via there online website and I get a email few days later with what i've used etc. If i do it every month, it saves them emailing me estimated. I pay via DD each month.
Zog only do Gas but are meant to be looking to do electricity but no further word on that yet. They also have not mentioned anything about smart meters as i don't believe they are doing them yet.
You do all correspondence wit them via email and they are pretty good at coming back and always seem to get good reviews each year. Prices have been good so far too.

I am lucky enough that I don't have much problem with utility company in recent years.
To avoid any unpleasant surprise, I take a dated photo of both gas and electric meter to save as record and provide them reading every month.
I am with Zog Energy for gas for over 2 years, they are cheap, bill send to email every month. No complaint.
With electricity, I am current switching from utility point to Symbio, purely for its price.0
