Unreasonable flight price increase

Hi
We’d be grateful for any help please with a problem we’ve encountered with Swiss Air.

We booked flights via the Swiss Air website from Heathrow to Geneva in February to visit our son, his wife and newborn son. The price was £230 pp.
Unfortunately, 2 weeks later we realised that we had made a mistake while making the booking and inadvertently chosen a return flight date of 24th March instead of 24th February.
We immediately went onto the Swiss Air website and amended our return flights to 24th February. This incurred what we understood to be a price increase from £230 pp to £254 pp plus a fee of £62 pp - we accepted this increase as it was our mistake.
BUT when our credit card statement arrived we thought that we had been charged twice for the flights as there were 2 charges of £230 and 2 of £254 + 2 fees of £62.
We contacted Swiss Air who advised us that the flights had increased BY £254 pp!! So we had actually paid £484 pp + £62 pp in fees!
This was not made clear at the time on the website - if it had, we would not have booked the flights.

Is there anything we can do about this at all? Any advice would be welcome please.

What does their cancellation policy say?

If you manage to cancel them, can you buy replacements cheaper?

I'm assuming this is history i.e. 2019 rather than 2020 in which case your move from March to Feb (UK half term/prime ski season) would have incurred significant costs.

IIRC prices quoted on changing tickets online for Swiss show the additional cost to change rather than the new fare - something you've now found out.

£500 return for LHR-GVA at prime times is far from unusual
  • Thanks for the responses. Guess we’ve learnt a hard lesson there
