Did they have a warrant to gain entry? If they did it clearly wasn't illegal.
  • Thanks everyone. Spent four hours at CAB today. I knew nothing of court date, nor action as no one wrote out to me.
I applied in writing to sheriff court for a court extract and details of the case and will email a solicitor this week. I would have very much valued a day in court to get this resolved.
Although I haven't, since paying £500 off, paid anything towards debt, only usage, I have been trying to have this taken off via third party deductions, so it just comes straight off universal credit.

It seems to me that PPM are a loss for everyone, I am paying more for electricity, and isupply have a longer repayment term.
You are not paying more for electricity if you were on standard variable rates with your supplier. Prepay rates have been capped and are now cheaper. Prepays are a good deal at the moment.
..Everyone is paying more for electricity since the steep rises from August last year. All those coming off cheap one year fixes which end up to next August will also be paying more
What tariff is your prepayment meter set at..in pence per kwhs ? You can see it on one of the screens on the meter.
I have a fairly cheap deal with Bulb and am paying 13.2 p per kwh on a standard variable credit meter ..You are allowed to switch supplier with a prepay meter with, I think it is up £500 of debt on the meter so you do not have to stay with your present supplier till the debt is repaid
  • They did have a warrant for entry....but I didn't know about the court date, so wasn't able to present my case, no one wrote out to me afterwards which you are meant to do within seven days, and they forced entry six, not seven days after the hearing
  • Also, I WANTED this paid back...I didn't have my head in the sand over it, I went between three different organisations to arrange repayment, HMRC, isupply and Grosvenor, on lots of occasions. I just want to go back to paying my monthly usage, and payment be taken from universal credit.

I'm still confused why HMRC were involved.......

    ....and isn't UC47 a DWP form?
  • Yes it's the UC47, it's universal credit I spoke with, part of DWP and HMRC. I even triple checked the addresses with them. I feel as though the company have systemically gaslit me, telling they phoned, written to and email regarding my case, when they clearly have done none of that. Universal credit have no vested interest, there is no reason they would lie, although Isupply said "how do you know they're not lying"

Well, it would seem steps have been taken to help you. Would I be right in saying the outstanding debt has been added to the pre-payment meter to help you pay it all off more easily without having to rely on third parties?

Unfortunately, you now have to accept that you are on prepay meters. Your debt will have increased with them going to court.

I was in a similar situation with NPower, where due to their mess up, I was landed with a, just under, £1000 bill in 2011. Prepay meters were installed and the debt was added to these. The debt was paid off in 2015 and I am now back on credit meters.

I don't see why you couldn't have paid them directly. The only reason you would need it taken directly from universal credit is if your really poor at managing your money.

If it really was a mess up then you wouldn't have had to pay the money back so surely you must have owed the £1000.

I never said I did not owe the money.

    Long story, cut short.

I moved in 13/12/2010. My social housing landlord told me that I was with NPower and that I had to contact them to sort out gas and electricity.

At this time I was very ill, having daily seizures. I contacted NPower, to them have a 30 minute discussion that I had prepay meters, when I did not. Eventually, they decided there was an issue and they would solve it. They would not setup an account, due to the issue with the meters.

I kept ringing asking to make some form of payments, but they would not let me
, as they had not sorted out the meter issues.

This went of for 11 months, before they wrote to me to tell me that it was now sorted and please pay this bill.

Living from hand to mouth, I had tried to put money away, but temptation got the better of me and I kept dipping.

So not saying I did not owe the money, but 11 months to sort out an issue is a mess up. Please tell me otherwise.
