just had a £500 water bill

That’s a shock

How much should it be for the year for a small flat just me and the wife?

Can I try and reduce it, would I be better off with a metre?
Nothing has been fixed since 2008, it was just pushed into the future

Your bill is based on the Rateable Value of your flat.

Contact your supplier re a water meter - not always practical to fit one
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill
