Have booked to fly to Newark next August (2019) and hope to cruise on the Anthem of the Seas from Bayonne (Cape Liberty Cruise Port)after some sightseeing and shopping!but as its all a first for us can anyone please suggest -
Arrive Saturday and do not cruise till Thursday so should we stay local to the port of more towards the centre of New York. Need to see the sights.
Any suggestions which area to stay and which mid priced accommodation for two adults.
How best to get from the airport to the hotel.
How best to get from the hotel to the cruise port.
On return, have one more day in New York so possibly best to stay close to Newark, any suggestions where and is there anything to do in that area.
How best to get to the hotel from the port.
Look forward to any suggestions that you can advise us with.

There's a very good chance that the answers you seek will be found somewhere in the 425(!) pages of this thread - given the size you might wan to start from the end and work backwards.

Take a look at the Cruise Critic website for more information and post an enquiry there once you have a better idea of what you want to do.
At least you have made the right choice by flying into Newark as it's only around 10 miles away. Both Uber and Lyft operate in New Jersey should you wish to use a taxi service.0
