Thanks all - especially to those who treated it surprisingly seriously and gave thorough answers.

I have no idea how to avoid saying about dad having banking problems because every time he goes near a branch he cuts it off.

If you are a banking virgin the answer is obvious.

If you are used to doing heavy physical work the Clydesdale might appeal.
Free the dunston one next time too.

If you yearn for a flat cap and a whippet how about Halifax?
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

    Hi all,

Lo and behold it turns out I have a working class background. That won't come as a surprise to my mum who sewed blue collars all day and dad who was a professional protester and seller of the Socialist Worker. You may remember him as "swampy".

Can someone recommend a good account for me as paypal is too middle class.

    thanks!

    I apologise for being flippant.

    However, without knowing:

    1) what you, or your dad (I'm not sure who is asking) are looking for from a bank account

    2) what accounts you (or you dad) have already

    3) what the issue with those accounts is

then I'm not able to offer any sensible suggestions

FYI if anyone is interested Socialist Worker can be downloaded in PDF format for free and that includes the current issue.

It's actually pretty good reading although I don't necessarily agree with it. For example is there really a far right plot against anti-racists and trade unionists?

    Socialist Worker is an oxymoron.

The co-op obviously. Although it has strayed from its cooperative roots, it still tries.
