Doesn't matter - it was sold as I was on my way to view it :(

Count yourself lucky. It most likely wouldn’t pass it’s next emissions test as their plate value is so (unrealistically) low and is bound to emit smoke, so money saved!

And what has drawn you to that conclusion?

And what has drawn you to that conclusion?

DFP fitted and any visual smoke of any colour = fail

These diesel vehicles have an emissions plate value stamped. I believe all Touran diesels to be stamped at below 1.0. A 10 year old vehicle is extremely unlikely to meet this. So fail.

If it were from July 2008 - 2014, then the default limit is lower by half of pre July 2008, so again these companies who have bragged about how clean their diesel is supposed to be will most likely see many of their vehicles off the road once this EU 2014/45 Directive comes into effect.

    Edit...
Refer to 8.2.2 of the new manual:

    https://training.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/Section-8-Nuisance.html#section_8.2.2

You will find there are lots of diesels with data plates that won!!!8217;t meet the figure stated on the vehicle. Especially some of the older ones.

Update : Was not sold, just removed for sale as it failed an MOT earlier in the day on:-

    1. Offside front coil spring broken (2.4.c.1a)

Will wait to see if it is relisted!

With all respect, if I were you, I would not buy it.

Potentially off the road after its next MOT next year. Please read the above.

I did read the above - was not aware of these changes! Do they apply to all vehicles or just diesels?

Should I be looking for a Petrol car if it's going to be about 10 years old?

    Thanks

The visible smoke are for those diesels fitted with a DPF. The limits and data plates also only apply to diesels.

I’m waiting to see how much (if any) the media jump on these changes and issues for the public come 20th May onwards.

So you have all these dealers/traders selling old Diesel vehicles at maximum prices knowing full well that they will likely fail their next MOT!

Thanks to all - it has been an eye opener!
