BT Charges for Email

I've just changed my broadband provider from BT to Vodafone, and I've received an email from BT saying I will now have to start paying £5 per month to keep my email address with them. Has anyone else experienced this and is there any way to overcome this? If I have to continue to pay for it, I lose out on a chunk of the saving I'm making

Yes that's normal you don't own the email .
BT and other ISPs give it free when in contract .0 -
Just switch to a free ISP-independent address such as GMail. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you want to retain a BT e-mail address you'll have to pay for it.
The alternative is to get an G-Mail, Hotmail, Yahoo or other non-tied account and then you can swap ISP's whenever you like.
I did it 20 years ago and have had lots of different ISPs but my Hotmail account has always stayed the same - it's can also be easier to use when abroadNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
