Tesco credit card fraud - 4th card

I am absolutely tired of getting my new Tesco credit card and within a few months I have the fraud department informing me of someone trying to use my card for a fraudulent transaction. This has happened 4 times now in 3 years. I have no idea how anyone is getting my details as how can I find out ? I buy from websites online and any one of them could be passing on my card details. Fortunately Tesco are vigilant enough to spot them before they process as one was for over £1300 from a tool company. Another for Davis dental supplies in the USA.

Sometimes I wonder if it is worth having a credit card.

  • Without stating the sites that you mainly use nobody can say.

But clearly you're using your card on some pretty shady sites that will allow it to be cloned multiple times.

The alternative is that it's your computer that is infected and harvesting the details.

I have Avira antivirus and occasionally run mailware bytes so not sure if it's my PC.

The only way to test that it isn't your PC being infected, is to use another card and visit the same websites and see if that card too gets flagged up for fraudulent transactions.

If you are confident its not any websites you have used it on, then the sane thing to do is reinstall your operating system.

If I start having doubts about the integrity of my computer, I wipe and start again.

Of course it could be nothing to do with your computer, but its best to try and take action over things you do control.

A bit drastic reinstalling so I think mailware bytes will take care of it.

I would be considering where you use it offline too!

Malware Bytes, Spybot search & destroy plus run the free anti-virus from Microsoft (it can be set for manual scans only) if you wish to use Avira as your main one.

  • Petrol stations continue to provide more risk than online transactions.

Of course, if you didn't have a credit card and used a debit card instead it would be your money that was at risk rather than the banks.

I'd agree with Peaceful Waters that petrol station use is a distinct possibility for cloning, it's where it happened to me the only time I had a card cloned.

    You have a tablet ?

Maybe use that for purchases to see if the fraud happens, obviously wont be instant but you can monitor it.
  • You sure it's not your computer?

In the nicest way, you do have a habit of falling for scams.
