They have a company number (3953678) but the website has only been in existence for 2 weeks. Yet more ammunition for the "don't touch them with a bargepole" argument.
  • Any consumer website that only accepts BACS is a scam.
  • How do people find these dodgy websites? They surely don't appear anywhere near the top of Google searches?

They do show in the top searches quite often, at least in the shopping section, I was looking for a particular console game for OH for Xmas, I was tracking the price for months to get a good deal and in the weeks leading up to Xmas I was checking daily and the amount of these dodgy sites showing up in the top because it is ordered by lowest to highest price. Every one of them used similar layouts, had only been up and running for a couple of weeks, had no reviews, and were cheaper than anywhere else by at least 40%.

I believe that the company number you quoted is actually the hosting company (1&1 UK HOLDINGS LIMITED, website: https://www.fasthosts.co.uk/), concealing the true identity of the owner.

The website actually DOES have their company number though (10865344) which is linked to YOOLI LTD, registered in July 2017.

The website Ts and Cs are probably a copy and paste job (the first bit matches up very well to Carphone Warehouse), so the trader (who is approaching 70 years old apparently) probably doesn't have a clue...

The website also uses https:// which is quite surprising..

Here's a funny link though: https://yoolishop.co.uk/template/ He's only gone and left the template he used active on his website :rotfl: IDIOT.

Oh and this too: https://yoolishop.co.uk/images/ Looks like he's all set to close down the site after a certain amount of sales. Maybe to do a runner? Maybe because he's got a limited amount of stock? Who knows.

I'm encouraged that he has set up a business on companies house to do this. It *almost* suggests that he's legitimate just with that. I think:

Best case scenario = Some trader who has surplus stock after xmas is now selling off his stock. He's doing bank xfers because it keeps HMRC in the dark or because he doesn't intend to trade long enough to set up the infrastructure to take card payments.

Worst case scenario = He's all set up to close shop as soon as he's rinsed a few people and you will never see the money or item again, as bank transfers offer little to no protection. This, however, is *fairly* risky as he's listed his name on companies house + a business address (though this could just be a forwarding address, he didn't provide a home address on his companies house registration form).

I personally don't think the risk is worth it, BUT it is not something I can confidently say is a fraud (more likely not to be fraud imo).

Since he's selling goods for under the wholesale prices available to big customers like DSG, I would not touch. Maybe he's hoping for orders and then to refund but as short term loans for christmas or something.
  • I don't know why people are suggesting to phone the company director or do some research. Would this make a difference? Just avoid altogether!

It would (to me at least) seem incredibly unlikely that someone would have the foresight to set up a company 6 months in advance (and the costs associated with that and setting up a website) in order to get a short term xmas loan.

Definite scam - a company isn't going to go through the hassle of drafting T&C's saying they accept card payments but not take the minimal steps required to take card payments (ie setting up a paypal/worldpay/sumup account). Especially to go through the effort of creating a link to every blooming bank going on the payment page.

That and we all know that faster payments offer no payment protection. Yet they claim they are independently insured so your payment is protected in the event of loss, damage or failure to arrive - why would your payment need protecting for risks that are their liability.
