Looks like another data breach at Tesco as I supposedly have been a potential victim. The only victim I've been is from Tesco whose slow and shoddy customer service has left me without a credit card for two weeks. Use to so value their products however they seem to have gone the way of all banks. Penny pinching, unsympathetic and uncaring customer service.

Anybody know to whom we whistle blow on Tesco?

What makes you think the breach is at Tesco?

Depends what you really mean by blowing the whistle (the usual meaning is highlighting malpractice within one's employer - do you work for them?) but assuming you're just an unhappy customer then you have the same recourse as with any other financial institution: first port of call is their official published complaints process, as per http://www.tescobank.com/help/complaints/.

If they don't resolve your complaint within 8 weeks (or give you a final response before then that you're unsatisfied with), you can escalate to the Financial Ombudsman Service at http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/.

What's the problem with contactless cards? They're really convenient, especially in pubs, and if people steal money from you just get it all back from the card issuer right away.

Because people DO steal from contactless - and we all pay.

I dropped my (unrequested) contactless outside a Tesco.
Within 15 minutes the card had been used twice.

Luckily I was online less than 2 hours later to spot the thefts.

Just because the issuer refunded the money doesn't make it "alright".
PIN would NOT have been easily accessible within minutes.

And it still took 3 calls (with the usual waiting time) to resolve.

So if people want to ask for an unsafe card that is their business.
It is thoroughly irresponsible to impose contactless on anyone.
Thankfully Lloyds, NatWest, RBS, Halifax, Nationwide still offer a choice.

I have contactless on all my cards now and even my phone and I've never had any problems with it and don't know of anyone else who has!.[/QUOTE]

My card was stolen from twice within 15 minutes of it being dropped.
PIN would have prevented those thefts.

Now you do "know" someone who had a problem with contactless,

    I agree.

Getting it back is not always plain sailing either.

When my sons girlfriend had £20 fraudulently taken from her bank account my son had to threaten to take all their bank accounts and mortgage away from them before she got it refunded.

It would, but there are plenty of other ways a thief can use a card without needing the PIN, online being the obvious one.

Well, back in the days before cards and we all had cash, if you'd dropped it outside a Tesco you would never have seen it again.
Retired at age 56 after having "light bulb moment" due to reading MSE and its forums. Have been converted to the "budget to zero" concept and use YNAB for all monthly budgeting and long term goals.

    these are contactless enabled
So . . . if the police told you someone had, had their purse/ wallet stolen, you'd stop carrying any cash?
