Tried to cancel but

My sister is trying to make a claim on her Debenhams card, Santander have refused the claim.

On several occasions at the time she tried to cancel the PPI on the card which was in her sole name yet they told her that her husband would be covered if needed.... does anyone know if this is the case ?

She was not employed on taking out the card, she was and is a stay at home mother as she has a handicapped daughter and needed to be around.

Has anyone tried to get details of their non-working status from the Department of Works and pension or HMRC ? and how easy and quick is it to do so ?

Was the card taken out by her and solely in her name?

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Yes it was only in her name

If you complained and Santander rejected it in August then refer it to the FOS and explain she was not working at the time etc then work on getting records from HMRC or her own tax records

  • Thanks Nasqueron. I have phoned Santander on my sisters behalf and they have given me this number to call with regard getting National Insurance Contribution for the year the card was taken out, so hope this helps someone else if they are looking for it.....I tried ringing several numbers and they were useless..... 0300 200 3500.

You get 6 months from a rejection to refer to the FOS so don't delay doing it or they can time bar it - as per your other post, as they were not working at the time the PPI would be useless

  • Sunshine, once Santander had proof of not working from HMRC they did not quibble at all and had sent there offer of money in about 1 week. It all went really well
  • Hi Lisa, Did you have to write to them going that far back. I got my sister to ring them today and they said you can only get 5 years over the phone and otherwise online. Did you get an actual letter from HMRC or use their website......!

    Thank you.

  • Proper letter received from HMRC. I had no problem getting them to look at it from 1998 and they never tried to say otherwise. Try putting it in writing, otherwise I don't know what else you can do.

When she phoned they just said they can only supply last 5 years from the phone call. She had to write in for earlier ones, which she has, filled out the HMRC form and written a covering letter asking for her whole record since she started work....this is so she can pursue any other claims at a later date without going through the same rigmarole

If she took it out before 2005 they can still refuse it because they weren't regulated.
    Just FYI
