Elaborate Discover Discounts Scam Sept 2015

Just been sent a very elaborate brochure through the post, not a circular - they do have my address, and they are saying that further to a purchase from Eternal Cosmeceuticals Limited I have a free 30 day trial of this discount club and at the end of the 30 days, if they haven't heard from me otherwise and as mentioned in the telephone call to me, they will upgrade to full membership at £99.99 which they will automatically take from my debit/credit card.
I have not bought anything from the above nor have I had any phone call.
There is a number to contact but I will not be contacting it. If anything fraudulent is taken out of my account, I know i have not authorised anything and so will ask the bank/card company to refund me as it's fraud.

Incidentally, I phoned the Action Fraud helpline who were actually worse than useless. They advised me to call the number!!!??? I mean this is an elaborate fraud as it much have cost them quite a bit to send me this glossy brochure and it would cost to send through the mail. They must want me to DO something in order for them to recoup money and so phoning a possible fraudulent number where they might try to glean other info from either the caller id or me inadvertently is what they are after. I can't believe that this so called helpline gave me this advice.
I'll update if anything does come out of any bank account at the end of the 30 day trial (which will be about 7th October).

I couldn't find a relevant board initially for this post - fairly new to these boards, but I felt a warning should go out. There is a tenuous link to Consumer Rights in that I am unsure about my rights of recovery from a credit card company should any money be fraudulently taken. I felt there might be more vulnerable people than me out there seeking help on this.0

Question, how did they get your card details to charge it.
Scammers don't send glossy brochures and warn you in advance, if your card was scammed your account would already be empty.
You need to take action to cancel the contract before the offer expires. This wouldn't involve giving them your card details.0 -
I had the same thing. I received a glossy brochure with “Discover Discounts” and “from Rox” on the front and back, which made me suspicious. I called them on the number they provided and discussed this with the agent who answered the call.
I bought some Rox Flawless Eyes as a Christmas present last year and then received a follow-up call from someone claiming to represent Rox in early September. I said that I was not interested and cut the call short. It was apparently at this point that I signed up for a 30 day free membership, though I have no memory of it. I am concerned that they have my card details from the earlier, genuine purchase and could try and re-use these to steal £99.99. I told them this morning to cancel my membership, which I had not asked for, and told them under no circumstances to try and take any money from my account.
The call was brief, the agent I spoke to was polite helpful and I am hoping that this will be the end of it. I will keep a close eye on my account.0 -
Oh wow. Same here. I did the same as you. I now remember that call and I said I wasn't interested to so thought nothing more of it. They didn't mention the Rox either. I just didn't tie the two things together. I bought that over a year ago (it's rubbish by the way) .
I've just phoned the number too and they said they have a script and they should have detailed everything in the call (which they didn't) and they would of course delete my details and cancel the trial.
Unfortunately because it was so long ago I have no idea which card they have. They said they would have told me in the call that they have it on file from my purchase (of course they didn't!)
So...I wait to see if I get charged. If I do it is fraud and I'm hoping my credit card company /bank will sort it out. Does anyone know if this is likely and will I be covered?0 -

Can you let me know on here if anything comes out of your account please? I have no idea which of mine to keep an eye on. I'll do the same0 -

Why not do the obvious and go through your past statements to find which card was charged before?0 -

Yes I'd already thought of that but it's just going to be SO time consuming when I have a few. Especially when I'm not sure when it was or which card. I did start to do that but couldn't get half of them going back beyond the start of this year.0 -
Just received a glossy brochure from Discover Discounts following telecon with young lady a week or so ago. According to the covering letter I apparently "agreed" to become a member? with a 30 day free trial and then £99.99 annual subscription to be taken from my credit card the details of which they appeared to have from a purchase I made before Christmas 2014 for a product from Eternal Cosmeceuticals Limited. IS THAT LEGAL? Needless to say that was not what happened, the lady thanked me for buying the product ( she didn't ask if it was any good ) then proceeded to offer me a scheme which when I enquired where is this going she replied "nowhere" so I said you can send me anything if you want and she suggested if it wasn't of interest to "chuck it in the bin"!
Anyway I immediately contacted my card issuer who assured me any charge made against my account would be credited if not authorised and advised me to contact Discover Discounts and confirm I did not wish to participate in their scheme. I did just that and to my surprise the gentleman who answered my call was very apologetic and confirmed my details and "membership" had been removed from their database.
It remains to be seen if any charge does actually occur but it is very annoying and somewhat worrying that an apparently unrelated company can access credit card details from a company with whom you have made a legitimate on line purchase.0 -
I'm going to cancel my card - I have figured out which one so I'll cancel it.0

If a charge is made against a cancelled card, the card issuers have processes in place such that the amount will still find its way to the underlying account.
I would suggest the best course would be to keep an eye on that account and should a dubious entry appear, advise your card issuer that the transaction was not authorised and a refund is due under their chargeback scheme.0
