I would just say that from Newquay to say Bristol is around a 3 hour drive even if the traffic is decent, so I'd probably be looking for something no further than that as your day out.
Then maybe go a bit further up the motorway Monday evening for your overnight stay so the journey is divided up into bitesize chunks.0 -
I would suggest somewhere before Bristol. In all likelihood, it's likely to be horrible between J21 Weston super Mare and the almondsbury interchange at J15.
If you do get as far as J20, then Clevedon is interesting (as mentioned further up) and tyntesfield (NT) isn't too far away.
You could then stay at either the travel inn or travelodge in Portishead and get back on the m-way at J19 on the Tuesday.0
