Hi all
Hoping someone can give me a heads up on something interesting to do with 2 teens on Bank Holiday Monday 6th April.
We are actually going to Newquay in Cornwall over the Easter weekend but traffic problems deem that we work things a little differently. Please read on...
To avoid the mental Good Friday traffic we are leaving Manchester on Thursday 2nd April at about 7pm (after the kids have finished School and we have had Tea etc). We are heading to Cornwall down M6 and then on the M5 towards The South West. We cannot check in at our Holiday Park in Cornwall until Friday morning so we aim to get half way along our Journey from Manchester to Cornwall and stay at a Travelodge on this Thursday evening. I'm guessing that this will be somewhere between Birmingham & Bristol?? That'll mean that on Friday morning when we wake up we will only have to drive from our Hotel to Cornwall. We will then spend Good Friday, Saturday, Easter Sunday at our Holiday Park in Cornwall. Unfortunately we have no choice to check out of the Holiday Park in Cornwall on Easter Monday morning. Now, this would mean sitting in mammoth traffic queues all day long on Easter Monday. Therefore, we have decided to make a day of Easter Monday but we have no idea what to do(never have been to South West before). Ideally, we would like to leave Newquay (and head back towards Birmingham up the M5) and stop somewhere along the route and spend Bank Holiday Monday doing something good for the teens. We plan to stay over in a Hotel wherever we find ourselves on the Monday.
Sorry this is so long winded. What I was trying to say is, can anybody suggest a good day out on Bank Holiday Monday somewhere between Bristol and Birmingham where we could stay over the night. We then plan to leave our Hotel at 7am on Tuesday morning (when the Bank Holiday Traffic has disappeared) and carry on home to Manchester.
Teens are:
13 Year Old Girl
12 Year Old Boy
They quite like Castles and interesting buildings & places among the other things.
Any suggestions please?

Well, I'll make a start with a few suggestions off the top of my head and in no particular order. Though as it's a Bank Holiday, wherever you go is bound to be busy.
Avoncroft Museum, Bromsgrove
Kenilworth Castle
Warwick Castle
Stratford on Avon (Shakespeare houses)
Cosford air Museum near Wolverhampton (a bit out of your way but well worth a visit)
Cadbury World, Bournville
Black Country Museum, near Birmingham
Tyntesfield, NT property near Bristol
Goodrich castle, Ross on Wye.
Not sure if you could make a full day out of some of the places, so best to do a bit of research to see if they would suit the family as a whole. Another suggestion would be to stop off for the day in Bristol where there's plenty to do including the SS Gt Britain and plenty of other places of interest.0 -

These are both a bit of a detour from the M5/M6 though.
I'd second the recommendation for Black Country Living Museum though
When we went we stayed at the Dudley Premier Inn which is close by....0 -
Julie & Poohsticks. Thanks a million for that. I've never heard of half of those places so it will be a new adventure for the kids. I'm certain we'll choose something from that lot.

Warwick casle is a good day out and you can use tesco points for ticket, also glamping is possible there. I personally would suggest m5 travelodge Portishead or Premier inn Weston super mare. Weston super mare sandy beach and pier. From Portishead ( 5 miles)you can go to Clevedon victorian seaside town with pier famous for one direction vidio and Kieren Knightly film, also Clevedon Court , parts of town used in Broadchurch, Poets Walk and much more. Also from Portishead m5 you have Bristol the suspension bridge at Clifton, Bristol Zoo Bristol museum ( free) and Bristol dockside harbour with the Ss Great Britain and Mayflower, a little further afield you have Bath, with its Cathedral Roman spa town, Wells catherderal, and the beautiful Cheddar with the Chedar Gorges. Caves, jacobs ladder also Where you can have a cream tea see cheese being made and much more. Tyntesfield , national trust house near Nailsea is 5 miles aprox from Clevedon across the road from Tyntesfield on Failand is a farm zoo.0

If your teens have any interest in wildlife then there's Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetland Trust in Gloucestershire - about 15 mins off motorway. There's plenty of suggestions so hope you find somewhere. If you're looking for a hotel near the motorway then there's a Premier Inn and Travelodge right next to the junction at Tewkesbury."Does it spark joy?" - Marie Kondo

Thank you for also taking the time to add your suggestions. It is likely from all of those suggestions given on this thread we will choose one or two. Only one downside... Mr Debit card is going to be sore on Tuesday morning.

Gloucester Services (M5 northbound only) has great independent catering (restaurant and take-away), a farm shop, craft shop...very different to your average motorway service station. Lots of people seemed to be using it as a visit in it's own right when I passed through in December.
Note that it's curently northbound only; southbound is due to open in May.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Something free to do:-Glastonbury Tor0
