Deposit paid for used car. Now want to cancel it
HI All,
Urgent help . We went to just look for the car yesterday but traded our own and bought the 3 year old car. We think price difference between Aberdeen and down south is £2000. We have paid £500 deposit.
We have just given our bank info and address info and signed that paper. It didnt have any statement of promise or commitment to buy.
How can we get out of done deal and get the deposit (really)?
Thanks,
Vidhya

The whole point of a deposit is to seal the deal for both parties. Having said that, it rather depends on the contract you made (verbal or written), but commitment to buy would usually be assumed if you paid the deposit.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

Just phoned the garage they said the deal is done but will discuss with his manager and call me back. fingers crossed.0

Im not sure what kind of contract we made. We werent given any details about the agreement. We were just given a sheet information to fill in our address and bank info . I htink its basically for finance arrangement. What are my rights to cancel the car deal ?

Backing out of an agreed deal is scummy behaviour. Do you have no honour or principles?0

Bantex,
I know its not correct but we atleast would like to try and see if there is any chance.

Either complete the sale or lose the deposit.
£500 is a lot to leave though, was it their figure to hold the car?"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Foxy-Stoat,
I called them this morning and was told that you know you agreed the deal yesterday. But he said he will speak to the director and get back to me. ALl this happened yesterday at 5 pm and we called at 9 am sharp this morning. Sp they dont loose any business because of us incase we pulled out.
I know it is not correct on us to do this but we also should have been careful. We have been careless but dont want to pay £2000 more.
They havent explained any terms and condition yesterday or even so far. As I said before , we just gave our bank and address info for finance arrangement I think. We didnt sign any legal documents. Having said that , we decided to go ahead yesterday. Its not even 24 hrs. I think we want to give it a try and see if we can get out of it.
Thanks,

So where are you intending to go to buy the same car for £2000 less? I know that prices in Aberdeen can be high but for that much saving I'd assume it's a pretty expensive car. And then of course if you have any problems with it the dealer won't be local to you, and you may have soured the relationship in advance if the place where you've paid the deposit is the local dealer for that make.0
