I have 30,000 yen (japanese currency) in cash. Where is the best place to exchange my yen for British pounds? Does anybody know where I can I get the best exchange rate?

Where are you based?
In central London Thomas Exchange looks pretty good (you would get £189.47 for your money at today's rate). At the wholesale exchange rate you'd get about £194.24, so they're charging about £4.77 (2.5%), which isn't bad at all. See http://www.thomasexchange.co.uk/travel_money_order_form.asp
Another option in London is City Forex (£187.78). See http://www.cityforex.co.uk/
At the Post Office's "guide rate" (which may be different in branch) you would get £179.47. See http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/foreignexchange?type=sellLet's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
