Which is cheaper???? Help please!

My friend has gas central heating and is out at work all day. We are having a debate as to whether it is cheaper to leave the heating on all day at a lower temperature just switching it up when required or leaving it on timed for about 2 hours in the morning and then about 4 hours in the evening at the higher temperature.

Does anyone have any views - please help settle this ongoing debate!

Many thanks,

The 'on all the time, or on a timer' question has been asked several times on this forum. If you search both the 'Fuel & other heating' and 'gas & electricity' forums you will find the discussion.

The very firm conclusion is that it is always cheaper to switch it off (i.e use timer) where possible.
