Trust your instincts!

US buyer bought an item from me Wednesday and I posted it yesterday, I've just had an email saying that she wanted to let me know she doesn't have the item yet but not too worry as she can wait a few more days.

Just checked eBay estimates and they are suggesting earliest arrival could be as early as Wednesday 1st, this was a standard airmail item, which eBay apparently think will take 4 working days to arrive!

Strangely though there was something about this buyer that made me nervous, no idea what, just something that made me wonder whether I could get out of sending it or not. I fear I may have to start blocking the US again as this is the second buyer in less than 2 months with unrealistic ideas on how quickly stuff can reach them from the UK. The other one asked me for a refund due to non arrival by day 5 . in that instance I told them to wait until the last estimated delivery had passed and then open a claim, after arguing they didn't want to open a claim and thought it easier for me just to refund them, I eventually got positive but bland feedback a week afterwards saying item had finally arrived.

Some Americans probably think UK stands for one of the States. Guy booked a trip to Birmingham, Alabama - ended up in Birmingham, UK - he was very surprised but enjoyed his trip to a place "named after a town in the US"!

You mean your airmail service doesn't include a plane waiting to take off immediately they press 'buy' to fly at supersonic speeds to their nearest airport, followed by a courier on standby to immediately whisk it to their home within 24 hrs....?

I presume there are issues if you increase your dispatch time, which would at least give a more sensible 'delivery by...' estimate if you post quicker than advertised?

Is it another one of Ebay's current glitches - estimating a delivery date that is impossible?

People can buy an item on Amazon in the evening and have it arrive through their letterbox the next day.

That then sets an expectation for all on-line orders, even when buying from a private seller on eBay.

Yes I too am a bit fussy now with Ebays expected delivery times.

I now see them as a restriction to using Ebay. I don't expect next day delivery, far from it but most of the listings I look at have expected delivery times of between 4 to 10 days. 4 I can handle but they very rarely arrive in that time so I mostly use Amazon now, prices are the same but delivery is always better.

It's true though as a customer we have unrealistic delivery time expectations.

rightly or wrongly - i have different expectations depending on whether i am buying someone else's tat or a new item from Ebay. If it is tat i expect to get it within a week. if it is new within 2 days.

Once again I didn't trust my instinct and I've had an INR case opened after just 3 working days of posting 2nd class. I nearly didn't accept the offer on this BIN item as something about the user name and the way they used certain words in a message to me made me wonder, but foolishly I accepted the offer as it was a 'stuck' item and one I wanted gone and now I have a case. The message with the case is that they would like an immediate refund and would prefer not to have to wait for any more time - to me that suggests they are hoping the refund can be made before I can get delivery confirmation. Obviously if it is lost then I'm happy to refund, but not 3 working days after dispatch.

It was a parcel but of course this shows nothing except 'An update will only be provided when we attempt to deliver your item' and I'm going to hold out for a couple of days in case that updates to show delivery.

Fingers crossed for an RM update in the next couple of days!

EDIT: I've also noticed that they have shortened the response time for an INR (I think I'll start a new thread) as I only have until the 23rd to prove delivery or refund before it is escalated.

    Thank you.

Luckily I checked the tracking again yesterday afternoon and it showed as delivered so I have added the track and trace message to the case. I also phoned ebay as they usually close the case in the sellers favour once delivery is proved, but they said they can't do that as the buyer still has the chance to reply (?) but I can escalate on the 23rd and a decision will be made on the 24th.

If ebay do anything other than close this in my favour I warn people to lay low on Friday as I might be incandescent with rage and you will probably hear me telling ebay what i think of them, wherever you are in the country.
