Upgrade DSL and extended contract without agreemen

Hi
A couple of years back I was in rented property on a one year contract. Moved out 31/03/16
After one month I upgraded my BT DSL due to the service being so poor. The existing contract was a 12 month term. At the end of the 1 year contract I moved out and when I advised BT I was leaving they advised me I still had 7 months left to run on the contract. It seems that when they upgraded the DSL they also extended the contract to an 18 month term. If I had known this I would never have agreed to the upgrade hence they did it without advising me..I did then go through a mass of calls explaining this with the end result being a request to hear the recorded call. This could not be found likewise they also claimed they had emailed me confirmation and had a copy of the said email. After multiple requests they said they would send the 'sent' email and never did. They then passed the debt on to a 3rd party. I made it clear to the third party that I would pay nothing without a recording of the call / the mysterious non existent email or something with my signature on agreeing to the extended term. Now today, around 18 months later I receive a letter from BT advising once again that they had passed the debt on. Where do I go with this as I will not pay without one of the three items they just cannot supply. Thanks

Recordings of calls are not always retained. They're usually made just for training and quality, not to prove what was said. If they have a contemporaneous note from their advisor that would usually stand as evidence.
  • You would have been emailed and posted a contract from BT
  • That!!!8217;s exactly it. The upgrade folk said nothing. How can they enforce anything without some kind of confirmation or signed agreement?

Have you raised an official complaint with BT? Not just speaking to someone or communicating via chat or whatever?
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)
