how can I tell if my egg is off

is there a way of telling if eggs are off?

    put it in a bowl of salted water,if it floats,its off.

    Eggshells are porous, so they let air in slowly. When there's air, it goes off. Doesn't need to be salted water, plain water will do.

    YOu should be able to smell if it's off as soon as you break it.

    Put it in water, and if it floats it's bad. Also you can tell how fresh an egg is by the white, if it's thick and stays together, it's fresh. The white gets thin and runny the older the egg. (Learnt that watching HOW)!!!!

    I tend to crack it in to a seperate cup before adding to a mixure, at least that way if it's off you haven't wasted everything.

    smell of bad eggs really turns my stomach so wanted a way to tell before I cracked them
