There's a lot to be said for old-school HiFi.

The reel-to-reel tape deck I bought in 1978 may be a bit worn around the edges, may have needed some spare parts along the way, may need nursing along like a sickly faithful hound, but it still works. Switch it on, press Play, and it's there.

It might only work in one room, but nobody is going to disable it with any "updates" or "improvements".

    Absolutely bouncing livid!!
I was annoyed when they retired the CR100 controllers, and yes I could have had a single £100 voucher in exchange for 2 controllers, but every room had a Sonos, so couldn't see the point..
    Now I have:-
    1 x ZP80
    3 x ZP100
    1 x ZP120
    1 x Play 5 (gen1)
which leaves a lonely Play:1 (gen1) that will be compatible after May..
To upgrade like for like will cost me £2,270 with the 30% discount!!,
Even if I make decisions to go for a lower spec (e.g. Beam with the bedroom TVs rather than Amp), I can't get it below £1,235 (inc discount) to upgrade each piece of kit that requires it.

I can feel a huge letter of complaint coming on.. Talk about not looking after early adopters.. 30% discount isn't enough IMHO - if it was inverted and we were being asked to pay 30%, it would still cost me nearly £1000, but I would begrudgingly accept they were doing everything the could to look after loyal customers..

But in your case - why does it matter? What updates do you need? I can see people who have say a mix of the new home theater stuff with older speakers being really really angry. But for what you have - it works - you don't need to replace it.

This will affect your listening experience.

I don't really think they should have said that. Your unsupported kit will surely remain exactly the same.
they also will not receive software updates and new features."

So, in my book, the time to get angry is when your new, supported kit, is prevented from getting some shiny new feature, that you actually want. Otherwise, you will continue to use your up to 2019 Sonos kit like you have done all these years. They're not actually removing anything, are they?

So basically the answer is ... nothing's going to change. It's only really if some new music service comes along that you want to subscribe to then your "legacy" system may not be able to do so.

Correct. The older processors etc won't be able to handle the new software from the streaming services going forward.

I fail to see why people are getting so angry. You can keep using all the currently bought equipment at it's current level of software updates, which is better than the state at which you bought the equipment to begin with.

If you are happy with your current setup it will retain the exact same quality for years to come. It's not like they are remotely bricking it.

So you haven't lost anything, you are only not going to get future updates, for devices designed and released 10+ years ago. This is pretty remarkable in this day and age and much more than what the majority of other tech companies are offering.

Ultimately dropping legacy code is a requirement for progress.
