I had forgotten about the resident Sonos obsessive Rumrat. Doesn't allow anyone to say anything bad about them.

You were a bit eager to jump in there and consequently made yourself look a bit churlish.
Oh for the power to deny permission for members to say anything..:)
I see nowhere that I have criticised stand alone Hi-Fi systems. I may do that if I ever get rid of mine. However, as I said in the post you kindly quoted, it's not a comparison. The thread is not about music quality, it's about multi room set ups. That's what people are having a problem with.

I've always tried to stop people buying this sort of stuff with limited success. I think it's bought mainly because it looks good even though the sound quality isn't great. It just makes so much sense to keep everything separate. A high tech source which connects to the internet and can be upgraded/replaced as necessary and then a separate amplifier and a separate set of speakers.

Its bought because its a simply and convenient system for multi-room music. Especially for people looking for an easy way to play stuff round the house who aren't worried about the "best stereo sound".

Its very user friendly for what it offers and (until it goes wrong) almost foolproof. Separates are great for a certain audience but not for everyone.

OMG I can't believe it. The world has gone mad! I start looking up Sonos stuff and people are playing vinyl through Sonos. Why on earth? Oh dear dear dear. Why would you convert an analogue source to digital and then back again? Genuinely though am I missing something? Do Spotify need to record some records and digitize them and create Spotify Vinyl? Is there a market for that? Do people desire the added hisses and crackles? I do have a turntable by the way but it's totally analogue.

Totally agree, if so some unknown reason somebody needs to have music in all of their rooms then they should just buy some second hand active speakers from ebay and plug into the 3.5 jack on the phone. The difference in audio quality will be negligable.

What are you talking about? Music on a phone? I use a record player! :)

    Hi!
I'm not sure if my situation is the same as others' on here.......

Several years ago I bought a Sonos speaker, and a wifi Bridge to plug into the router.

I only had an iPad..... no Mac desktop or laptop, and I only wanted the speaker to play music from my music library on the iPad.

    All was well initially.

I stopped using the Sonos for a while, for reasons I won't bore you with, but yesterday I wanted to play something through it, so I set it all up again. However, although everything was recognised, I couldn't connect it to my music library.

I contacted Sonos, and this morning got an email to say that I could no longer play from my music library as :-

“If you are trying to play content saved on your iPhone, iPad or iPod then unfortunately this will not be possible.
The ‘On this iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch’ feature has been removed from the Sonos app for iOS. The way this feature was originally designed has become unreliable with newer versions of iOS. “

Apparently I can still use it to stream music from media sources, but I have never wanted to do that, and that wasn't the reason I bought their speaker anyway.

    I am furious.
