Disappointing Dyson Service & Replacement Vacuum recommendations

  • The Dyson we had (DC04) was an appallingly-made piece of junk; the motor overheated and cut out, bits of the cheap plastic fell off, and it snapped genuine Dyson drive belts like there was no tomorrow. The cheap Chinese knock-offs from eBay lasted longer!

It was binned and replaced with a Henry, which has been doing its job without drama for about 8 years now. Dyson's stuff is a triumph of style over substance, never again.

I've known several people buy Dyson over the years and it seems they've all dumped them for something else. They seem to be both overpriced and unreliable.

I have to say I am really very confused why no one has recommended Hoover. (or OOVER if you live in the north, H Dropping.)

I got free flights to Sierra Nevada and Costa del Sol for spending £100 on a Hoover Turbomaster and a Hoover Purepower.

My carpets are very clean indeed and the 2 cleaners have lasted since 1992. They have the royal warrant on the front and the headlamp still works.

Why are you buying rubbish? You will pay 2 times for buying rubbish.

Only buy Hoover cleaners. That is my advice to you. Your carpets will look great.

Dyson currently have £100 off the V11 (their latest model) for Black Friday. They've had an offer for a free black wand for a while now. The gold version came with an additional tool (stubborn dirt tool) but I think they've put this with the blue version now.

I've been thinking about it for a few weeks and have today purchased it.
    Should be here tomorrow.

My last Dyson (a DC44), has lasted about 4 years. Purchased it in September 2015 but it's started going a bit wrong now. The brush bar is pretty much had it, suckability isn't fantastic (it never was amazing to be honest) and when I pull it back, most of the time, the brush bar stops spinning.

I kept the box so should be able to flog the DC44 for £100ish I reckon, so not a totally bad deal.

Watched an online review and apparently the V11 is about a 3rd stronger than the v10, which was pretty strong for suckability anyway.

Dyson offer a 30-day free return service so if it's not that good, I'll be sending it back.
It has a lot to live up to as I was nearly swayed by Sharks tangle free method of getting hair off the brush bar. I don't think the Dyson has anything like that.

I'll report back whether the V11 is worth it.
  • I am sorry but think you are taking liberties expecting to get £100 for an old dyson in that condition.

The best customers for second hand dysons I find are small electrical shops and tinkerers who give them a bit of an overhaul and resell. They are the lower end of the marker and won't be paying £100, box or not.

The market for a £100 4 year old Dyson will be vanishingly small.

    I think you'll get £30 tops!

Well, I most have been lucky.

While I have no proof, it sold on Facebook this morning, £100.
Turned down an offer of £75 and £85.
Was up a week or so before Christmas Day.

Goes to show, if its fully boxed with all attachments and it's been looked after AND you're willing to wait, people will pay.

Considering I saw the same one, no box, only two attachments for £75, mine seemed very reasonable.
