It should be noted that Solarplicity are not members of the Direct Debit Gaurantee Scheme so there is no point asking your bank for a refund of a DD.0

I've no idea what you are on about
https://www.directdebit.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/pages/directdebitguarantee.aspx
but I see you have made a claim previously under the DD guarantee against SolarplicityThanks, TSB are refunding last direct debit from Feb. I am still about seven quid out of pocket but i will live with that.
:cool:0 -
Claim rejected as they aren’t In the DD guarantee scheme.
Do you understand?0 -
This company is a complete sham. Their engineers repeatedly don’t turn up to prearrangement appointments for smart meter swaps, their customer services team promise to get back to you but never do.
They don’t respond to emails and they have the audacity to have a so called “complaints procedure policy” that they don’t adhere to.
It’s abhorrent to think a company like this can get away with it. They simply don’t give a damn. They take the monthly direct debit without fail but provide nothing in return.
I can’t believe our UK government allows such companies to exist. Let’s hope Solarplicity which should be renamed to solarincompetency, goes into receivership or is banned from trading. They are a total disgrace and give the energy sector a bad image.0 -
Worst supplier
I was reading very bad reviews before contrating the supply with solarplicity. Still silly me, went ahead with it. I am now being ask to pay 600 pound for high estimates, because this company dont comes to read the meters and they dont apply the reading entered by me on my account. They dont deal with my queries over the phone and they do not sort my complaints emails. They also have rejected my switch over to Scottish Power on the basis that I owe them 600 pounds, that they pretend me to pay based on estimates. Furthermore, they unlawfully changed my tariff, as my chosen tariff is stil offered for my post code on their website and on my bills was showing ending date N/A. Suddendly they decided to change it on the last 2 bills for a more expensive one and without notification. I would never recommend this supplier, I would never contract again with them and I am just awaiting to sue them to the Ombudsman

Does anyone have experience of using Solarplicity energy, they come out as one of the cheapest for me on the comparison sites?
I have never heard of them before, so not sure if i should go with them.[/QUOTE]0 -
Dire, AVOID. I have been with them for 2 years. Over the past 9 months they have decided to change the published tarriff without informing me. ( then denied the old tarriff existed: thankfully I have a PDF of it and a printed paper copy). And they forget to generate bills some months and then DOUBLE bill other months.
Failed to reply to complaints and even after my MP got involved, they still refused to reply until a month later. The MP had to write twice to the CEO : Here is their email " ceo.complaints AT solarplicity.com " in case you need to write.
They have now refused my switch to a new firm, saying I owe £400 on an ESTIMATED reading, despite me giving them an actual reading last week. Their South African call centre is a joke. They say " Your meter reading is too low ". well... THAT'S THE ACTUAL REAL READING ! It's Solarplicity who have been over inflating the estimated readings since xmas.
Not worth the hassle of moving to for so called Green energy. ( They last published their green energy mix in 2016-17. They didn't bother to update it last year... )0 -
Re: solarplicity billing. I concur with their billing incompetence. I switched aay from them April '18 after a year ( to get a better rate), but the final bill was c.£50 too high. Evidently, they ignored the first elec. reading supplied when I joined them and plucked a figure out of the ether. Should've checked first bill, but I've had some entertaining email exchanges over the last 8 months. The latest email from Dec '18 claims they don't have to use the meter reading supplied (really!!), and have 'industry' discretion of 250 units. Are they from Mars?! Attempted to complain to Ofgem as the novelty is wearing thin now, but their website seems unobtainable. As an update, my current reply will suggest if they want to use 250 unit leeway, make the initial reading 250 units higher!
Recommendation - be careful if using these chimpanzees, and be prepared for interesting correspondence.:(0 -

Does Mars have any chimps?
What the supplier has told you is correct and applies to all energy suppliers0 -
So what is the point of supplying a meter reading? What does this '250' unit discretion actually mean?:(0

@squawk57
All the matters is that the closing reading on Solarplicity's final bill is the same as that on the new supplier's opening reading. Those 2 figures have to be identical. Are they?
There is no way that you should be asked to pay twice for the same energy.
Now to the question does the closing/opening reading have to match your reading given to the new supplier? NO.
This is where the "industry variation" comes into play.
From the So Energy site, it describes the variation allowedWhat should your meter reading have been at the time of your switch?
We can only change readings used for switching (opening or closing readings), if they are significantly wrong. According to energy industry rules, your reading must have a difference of more than 250kWh for an electricity reading, or a difference of 39ft3 or 125m3 for a gas reading. Anything less than this means that the estimate is sensible and could reasonably have been a reading taken around the time of your switch, and the difference to you in cost will be very small
As to why you sending an opening meter reading, well it is to get as accurate a closing and opening bill as possible. The industry verification is designed to minimise fraud as some people give incorrect meter readings hard to believe I know.
More information in this blog post about the secret life of an opening meter reading for how much the figure is allowed to vary.
