Current account with ability to export annual transactions in 1 go

Hi, I'm looking to switch current account away from Santander. I've been with them for a long time but I think other banks' online banking/apps have moved along so much in that time yet Santander hasn't. I have to download transactions month by month.

Also in the past year or so, the hoops I have to jump through in terms of fraud protection is driving me mad.

I have a Revolut account too but I'm not sure I'd be happy using that as my main account. I do appreciate the ease at which I can export a full tax year's worth of transactions straight to CSV though and I'm wondering if there's a high street bank that can offer that via online banking or an app. Even better if there's a switching bonus.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

The following is not a recommendation as I use personal budgeting software to keep track of my money.

However First Direct do offer a transaction download service on their website. Did not look at the app.

For upto 1 year of data (I just tried and downloaded data from 6/3/25 to 5/3/26).

Apparantly you can go back for 6 years of data for current accounts (1 year at a time). 6 months for credit card accounts. If you need further details, you can look at statements but I am not sure how far they go back. My statements go back 2 years but that is because I had fraud attempted on my current account so I got a new debit card. But also I did ask for a copy of a paper statement from a different account from the month of December 2018 when I then closed the account in March 2019. I received this statement.

There are various format offered including CSV, QIF, Microsoft Money (QIF) and JSON.

In fact there were 2 files downloaded.

A file that was quite informative with: date, a combination of the name of who was receiving the money and any reference you used, a transaction value then the balance after each transaction.

There was also a midata format file, which frankly I did not understand nor did it seem to contain all the transactions till 5/3/26.

2nd edit: I suppose I should add I downloaded onto a computer running Windows 11 and I have the MS Office suite installed. The data came up in MS Excel.

Obviously with all things technical there is no saying for how long this functionality will be offered.

    Hope that helps

Edited to add: When FD comes up for discussion on this board, some people are unhappy with the functionality offered in the web and the app. You may have a better app and web experience with Santander. But I am perfectly fine the functionality offered in both web and app.

It's weird how little effort some banks put into their apps. I just had a look and Monzo and Starling both let you export transactions over custom date range. They aren't high street banks but you get better apps from banks that don't waste money on branches.

It's because their systems were built from the ground up to handle app's.

Historic banks have to integrate a app into legacy systems, that are not designed for such tasks.

Co-op bank allows you to download a custom date list of all transactions via their website. I've used it to download the whole year's transactions for reconciliation of accounts

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Via the web browser - I cannot see it in the app - Lloyds offers a midata export for the last year or so of transaction data. Given they use the same or very similar systems I'm assuming Halifax and BoS offers the same.

I must be missing something in the question, but I've just been into Santander and downloaded to CSV the last 12 months worth of transactions.

I have a client who also downloads 12 months worth when we do their year end accounts.

Thanks for all the replies. I was mistaken, it's actually the Santander credit card that only allows me to download transactions month by month and there's a fair bit of work involved in getting them into the right format. However, even the normal bank transaction download still requires a bit of reworking to get into the right format. Whereas Revolut exports to a format that works perfectly well in my spreadsheet for tax.

I'll look into First Direct and CO-OP.
