We viewed a flat last week, loved it and decided to put in an offer. We rang the agent an hour after viewing and asked what the process was. The girl who answered didn’t really know and just said ‘we’ve had lots of offers, please send it be email’. We couldn’t speak to anyone who knew the flat or the situation, so decided all we could do was offer. We sent an email with a cash offer of more than the asking price, with proof of funds and solicitors details. It is now a week later and we haven’t heard anything at all from the agent, not even a confirmation of our offer, nothing. I’ve tried ringing every day but to no avail. I feel sure it’s just going to come up as sold on Rightmove, without any consultation. I’m annoyed as they have details of our personal finances and haven’t even acknowledged it. What can we do? Should we take it to the ombudsman? Incredibly frustrating.

Agents...
This week my daughter phoned a local agent to try to arrange a viewing on a property. Nothing. She chased and chased, they took her details multiple times.
Finally, after five phone calls, she finally got an email from them.
"Dear [Correct name] [Wrong address] We are delighted to confirm that your offer of £xxx, xxxx has been accepted by the vendor".
You really couldn't make this stuff up...1 -
In a similar story I had to chase and chase one agent to book a viewing (I’m buying miles away from where I currently live so had to book viewings in over the course of a few days while I was visiting the area). At one point I just flat out asked the agent if it had been sold and if they were stringing me along because I didn’t want to waste my time and could book in other viewings if this particular house wasn’t going to be available.WellKnownSid said:Agents...

You really couldn't make this stuff up...In another example, a different agent cancelled a viewing I had with just a couple of days notice because an offer had been accepted. I reiterated that I was a cash buyer and might make a higher offer than the other offer. But they said they weren’t doing any more viewings. I couldn’t quite understand from a seller’s perspective why someone would cancel a viewing when they could end up with a better offer just a couple of days later. The house is still on the market now months later. I suspect something else is going on there but can’t figure out what it is.As it was, I ended up putting an offer in on the house I had liked most on paper and my feelings were confirmed when I viewed it. That agent has been brilliant so far.0 -
You should really not give too much information to an unknown person so this is down to yourselves. You should have just asked the EA to call you to discuss your viewing and possible offer.0

I agree, it was the OP's fault for providing the personal information when that was not even asked for at this stage! He should have just sent in an email as requested with the offer price and his cotact details and wait for the agent to get back.gwynlas said:You should really not give too much information to an unknown person so this is down to yourselves. No case of complaint to the ombudsman here but if it was me, I would avoid buying from that agent in future.0
