Following on from my how long is probate taking thread, just wondering why it takes so long for the bank to do final closure on bank account? All documents/signatures etc have been with them for 2 weeks now.

Two weeks is hardly a long time. They have a range of processes and checks to go through, so it's a bit early to start getting agitated.Elliemiss said:Following on from my how long is probate taking thread, just wondering why it takes so long for the bank to do final closure on bank account? Not agitated as such, never done this before and was just wondering about the process, it's literally just a bank account. Thanks for your reply @MarconMarcon said:

I think it varies, when I closed my mums account with Barclays I did it in branch and it took 24 hours. That was pre lockdown and I suspect it may be somewhat slower these days, and I suspect your application is sitting in a queue waiting for someone to deal with it.1

They probably need to check and inform you of any debts, standing orders, recurring payments etc. Two weeks is not long.1

it took around 4 weeks to close my mum’s Virgin Money account.1

Well I got my answer, accounts closed today and money received, 2 weeks from sending probate form. Strange feeling though, seems very final now and quite sad.0

It was very quick when I closed my Dad's Lloyds account. I filled in the form on their website and uploaded the documents late on a Monday afternoon, and the money was transferred to me mid morning on the Wednesday.Keep_pedalling said:I think it varies, when I closed my mums account with Barclays I did it in branch and it took 24 hours.
