So what happens if you are told before you fly that it is expected to be class 2 due to the season, but then there is a massive storm the day before, and before you know it, on the day you've booked, it's now class 3?
Did it mean that the insurance company didn't cover class 3 at all or would it require an upgrade? Could you call on the day to request the upgrade?0 -

Knowing what I know now, I'd ask before I took part if it was still classified as Class 1/Class 2 - if the answer was Class 3 the choice is then to either cancel the booking, contact the insurers, or chance it.
The policy says it covers rafting Class 1/Class 2. Could you call the insurer on the day and upgrade ? Possibly, but if your several time zones away, you may not get an answer !
Another "anomoly" I found was hiking/fell walking and cycling - both were covered, but only to a certain height above sea level. Not an issue to most people on most holidays, but a real PITA if you are in a part of the world that is already "high up".0 -
I'd prefer to take the insurance risk than risk my health. But if you were confident you were fit for a transatlantic flight I guess there's no issue.Murphy_The_Cat wrote: »Well if you are ever in the same situation, go for it !
With my own previous experience of insurance claims, anything that is a grey area can cause extensive delays, massive aggravations and potential "settlement adjustment" - none of which are pleasant things to deal with.
I wasn't prepared to risk/chance a hefty hospital bill, rearranged flight tickets and ancillary expenses when I had a ready made Plan B available to me.
Lesson learnt for me - I'll do quite a bit more digging in future before taking part in an activity.0 -
Well presumably they wouldn't allow a "beginner" on the course, since class 3 requires "Experienced paddling skills". Same with any weather dependant activity - if the weather turns bad it has to be cancelled if unsafe. So what happens if you are told before you fly that it is expected to be class 2 due to the season, but then there is a massive storm the day before, and before you know it, on the day you've booked, it's now class 3?0 -
Murph, sorry to hear of your injury, hope you make a speedy recovery.
Makes you think about the cover of insurance plus what the insurance companies will do to get out of paying.0 -
Took 70 year old parent to Norway. She had no plans to do any extra activities so didn't check the insurance . Changed mind. Went snow mobiling where I successfully overturned the machine into a snow drift with parent underneath and snowmobile on top.
Luckily no injury caused other than to pride as on checking the insurance she wasn't covered.
Note to self - if you're planning to kill aged parent, check you're fully insured first. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Killing probably wouldn't be too bad, severely injuring would be.0 -
Hope you're okay and not too seriously damaged. What happened?"Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

Hello Crispy
I was rafting when we hit a submerged rock.

Ouch! Hope you are mended soon. We went tubing with family today - the kind where you are behind a speedboat. Mr Crispy managed to knee me in the face as we got thrown off so I now have a very fetching fat lip but fortunately no other injuries. He feel pretty bad about it, even though it was an accident. I've told him he can quit whining about the cost of Graceland though as a recompense!
Hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen.
