How often should you have a med on IB

Are there any hard & fast rules on how often you have a medical on IB? I haven't had one since 07 or 08.

no hard rules though people on IB are now being gradually reassessed to be moved on to ESA.

Ive never had one at all and Ive been on IVB since the early nineties, the hospital did do a form I was given while I was still in hospital but thats it.

I will no doubt have to have one when we change to ESA although the goverment did say that they would try and transfer as many people as possible medcial free if they had enough information to do so (and I have letters from all my consultants ready, my GP will write one when I get the ESA50) when the change was mooted but I havnt seen it mentioned for quite a while.

Do you receive high rate DLA Care ? If so, you might be exempt from the IB medical (personal capabilities assessment).
I no longer contribute to the Benefits & Tax Credits forum.

I am now but I wasnt then, I got MRC after my accident and it was only superseeded a couple years ago when I started needing help at night.
  • I am on Lower Rate DLA both componets and I also get IB and an IS top-up.

I have never had a medical. I just send in sick/fit notes every six months.

My first medical will probably be when I am moved across from IB to ESA.

It worries me a little, because I have Autistic Spectrum Disorder, I really don't relate to strangers, and from what I have heard/read ATOS are less than understanding when it comes to mental conditions. (I also have a couple of physical conditions - and feel that ATOS will solely concentrate on those).
  • I've been on incapacity benefit since 1996, after an accident whilst in the army.

I had medicals roughly every six months for the first few years then my claim was "renewed" just on the bases of the IB50 form. I actually received notification last week that I have again reached the threshold and will come up for normal reassessment in July 2012, which bearing in mind the cuts etc i'm quite pleased with. Although believe me I much rather be in a situation to work.

While it's currently expected the ESA transfer will occur on a claimants review date, don't be surprised if it comes sooner.

I don't know whether the people who do the medicals now are the same as when I had mine a few years ago, the DR I saw was lovely & mine are MH problems.
My friend was seen at the same centre & the person they saw wasn't so great. She seemed in a huge hurry & confused him so much that he just agreed with everything she said as he didn't have time to think about the questions.
It's possibly the luck of the draw.
Hopefully you have someone who can go with you for support.
ETA, I haven't had to send in sick notes for several years now & am on IB & IS.

Oh yeah I fully expect to hear before. However hopefully as my GP and Pain Consultant gave fully supportive reports to the D.W.P. I'm hopefully I'll be left alone for a bit lol.

It's an awful time that lapses between the IB50/ESA50 form landing on your doormat until the letter arrives saying you've reached the threshold.
