Getting accepted for First Direct + General Queries

Hi!

A few months ago I applied for a First Direct and was turned down. At the time I wasn't overly surprised.

I currently bank with A&L and also had an open Abbey account left over from when I got my charges back from them. I also had a reasonable amount of debt.

Since then I have closed the 'dormant' Abbey account and have paid off over £5K of debt, athough I still have around £10k. My husband has been 'recommended' by a friend to FD and we're now waiting to hear if his application has been accepted.

Does anyone know if the above will have improved my chances, and/or if Hubby being accepted will?

I'm desperate to sever all ties with Santander.
