Agree with the others - your health matters more than sticking to some financial challenge.
Maybe you could take a look at this thread - eat healthily (for a short period, not long-term) for £25 per person per month
OP, I'd be tempted to take the £15 to entertain your neice from the "entertainment" budget, and leave more for fresh F&V this month

Morning, Sorry OP to go slightly off topic, but I wanted to ask a bit more about Penny's thought above. Hiya Penny, I thought I was designing something with long-term health in mind. I know you've thought lots about this sort of thing, so if you feel it's not, I'd be interested in researching that further. If not too busy, perhaps you might pop onto the thread (so I don't derail this one :rotfl:) and say what might not be long-term healthy?:)
Also OP can I just add that the thread is very long
and represents a process of trying to create something which can be usable by people trying to save money, and it has lots of very cheap recipes. But at the moment it is a work in progress and we haven't in any sense 'launched' a finished version!
Just felt I needed to cover our backs a bit there!

20th of april is 28 days away not 18?? Thats 140 portions of fruit and veg....
Hi Lee I've read a bit more now and I make it that you've already got 35 of these covered, so not far to go!! The cheapest way to provide 5 a day costs 11 pence if shopping in asda, but for it to be different F and V and getting all your colours, (which gives a better range of antioxidants) it is just under 19 pence per day, costed on Saturday just gone.
I hope that is of some use to you.
All the best with current financial headache

Hi, you could try this shopping list from Asda (choosing the cheapest version of everything - usually their smartprice range).
fresh carrots (2kg) 1.07p
fresh onions (2kg) 78p
frozen broccoli (907g) 84p
frozen spinach (1kg) 1.02p
frozen mixed veg (907g) 67p
canned pineapple pieces (565g) 32p
can baked beans (420g) 29p
can garden peas (300g) 14p
can lentils (400g) 48p
can kidney beans (400g) 19p
carton pure orange juice (1 litre) 56p
potatoes (5kg) 1.36
loaf of bread (800g) 50p
can sardines (120g) 24p
frozen chicken liver (227g) 37p
flour (1.5kg) 43p
long grain rice (1kg) 73p
porridge oats (1kg) 58p
UHT skimmed milk (1 litre) 49p
6 yoghurts 44p
sunflower oil (1 litre) 67p
Total £12.54
A portion of fruit or veg in the 5 a day guidelines is 80g (or 150 mls pure juice) and includes fresh/frozen/canned/dried/beans/pulses so this food provides 5 portions a day for at least 20 days. It's also fairly balanced for essential nutrients. You would have to be creative and cook it up into meals though! eg soups, pies, crumbles, smoothies, bubble and squeak, potato/oat cakes, fritters, casserole, rissoto, fishcakes....stuff like that. Good luck! (I’d like to offer my blogsite address for cheap recipe ideas but the last time I did that my message was deleted - I don’t know why, no ads or selling there!)0 -
Hi there
Check out the Mbaz thread on £20 for family of 4 pm. Gets a little lentil heavy at times but the thread is a classic.

Hi Anna Marie :hello:
It comes from this rule in the Forum Rules:
If this doesn't answer your question, do head over to the Site Feedback Forum and start a thread there so the team will see it'Advertising' includes touting for business; asking people to contact you; posting e-mail addresses which indicate a web address; linking to sites you or friends are involved in (whether you’re selling something or not), or to your eBay or other auction sales.
All posts which we consider to be advertising will be removed where reported.
Users are allowed links in profile pages but please don't mention them in your posts or signature in any way.
If you continue to advertise on the forum, your permission to post on the forum will also be removed. This includes the Referrers Board.
Penny also posted the new rule notification here
I hope that clears things up for you :AA little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men
