Windows XP

Can anyone tell me where the is the cheapest place to buy a GENUINE copy of Windows XP? Just moved in with my girlfriend to find that her previous boyfriend, who put her computer together, took the less than honest route!

I think you'll find this http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114051 to be by far the best option for XP, unless you want to easily add the machine to a domain (unlikely for home users).

I took my computer to a local shop and he put XP on for me. It was a reclaimed licence. It cost me £30.
  • You can download it for free but of course that would be illegal. As I have more money than Bill Gates I would rather give him £52 to even things out a little.

Sorry to hijack this thread but it's on topic!

My Acer laptop came with XP Professional preinstalled and I did not get a copy on disk.

I upgraded the operating system using a Vista upgrade disk but I've had a few problems and want to reset my laptop to factory settings (ie back to XP and without all the software).

I've searched on google and apparently there is a key-combination you can use on Acer computers to reset the machine but because I've upgraded to Vista, it's probably overwritten one of the files that would allow me to do this. (I haven't actually tried resetting as I'm a bit nervous of messing things up!)

I thought another way to do this would be to reinstall XP but I don't have the disk, although I do have my license number.

How can I get a copy of the XP Professional software without paying for another license which I don't need?

You can just borrow a copy off anyone you know if you have a licence key. Or download it from the pirate bay failing that.

I prefer her previous boyfriend by the sound of things. Why on earth would you care if her ex. has paid for a licence key for her XP on her laptop? You might as well flush £55 down the toilet for all the difference buying a genuine licence key is going to make to her life.

Are you going to inspect her MP3s and movies and go out and buy them as well. And why not check her clothing for fakes. Of course don't forget unofficial parts on her car.

I am detecting hostility towards the ex-boyfriend.
