Dubai Holiday - Ebookers

Hi All,

I have problem which i'm sure all you great MSE members can advise on.

I purchased tickets from Ebookers on March 2008 to go on holiday on 25 June to Dubai. During the purchase they asked me what nationality i was and i select British for me and Indian for my wife.

I wasnt told that has my wife's nationality is Indian and holds a Indian passport she needs to follow additional steps to obtain a visa. As this information was not given, on the day of travel i was refused on my flight and i ended up cancelling my holiday  and losing £400   .

Do i stand a good chance of claiming compensation from ebookers? Unfortunately the travel insurance doesnt cover me for this.

Look forward to your responses and thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers, D

    Not a chance.

    I can't believe you didn't check.

I can't believe you are trying to blame someone other than yourself?

It is entirely your responsibility to ensure that your visa & passport situation is up to date.
  • it is upto you to find out if you need a visa.....travel agents book holidays they dont have to do everything and spoon feed you all the way, sorry but at times it is just near ridiculous the questions people ask...if you can manage to post on this forum then i am fairly sure you could have googled to find out about a visa! It really is common sense....that said on the website I book for it does give some brief advice for instance it says for turkey you will need to pay £10 sterling at the airport for your visa and then says if you have any visa questions to contact the embassy, chances are she may have been checking only to find out as some hotels/charter flights do not let other nationalities stay at those rates etc or let them fly.

Also, very clear on their website:

It is your responsibility to check with the applicable Embassy or Consulate to see whether the destination(s) that you are visiting requires a visa, especially if you do not hold a passport marked "British Citizen". If you fail to do so, you will be solely responsible for any cost, loss or damage which you or we incur as a result of your failure.
    Gone ... or have I?
