Moving house on a buget - packing boxes

Hmmm hope this is the right forum
Hopefully if the council and HA agree to it, we have after 4 years found a mutual exchange.
Now we need to move as cheaply as possible, especially as the house needs a bit of work doing to it. We are going to hire a large van (brother HGV driver, so he will come in handy) but what I am struggling with is getting cheap boxes, I have not seen in any supermarket a box section, you know like what they used to have, this was great last time we moved house. Does anyone know where I can get some from? Searched on ebay & net, but they are all about £60.00 for a pack.
DH thought you could hire boxes, but can't find anything relating to that either
Thanks All

Thanks for that, i will contact a couple of local big supermarkets, hopefully one of them will take pity on us
Thanks for that I didn't relaise they saved them, i just thought they ended up being squashed in carboard recycler thingy
Thanks again0 -
I'm a 'home shopping' driver at our local 24hrs ASDA and when I return to the store at about 10pm the isles are full of cages of stock to be put out and empty ones to put the folded up boxes in that the delivery lorries take back with them. It's usually the same people filling the shelves each night (in our store anyway) so go have a chat. I've got loads of flattened boxes in my garage sitting there, waiting for the day we sell.
Don't be tempted to get too many big boxes, you'll never lift them full and they're more likely to collapse. Wash powder, bleach, washing-up liquid and nappy boxes seem very strong as well as boxes that alcohol have come in .
Hope this helps.

i noticed the other day that a local baby shop which sells prams and cots etc have a notice in the window saying they give away boxes.
so if you have one near you maybe even mothercare im sure some of the double buggy boxes would come in handy! It only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
Wow! Thanks for all the great ideas guys
I will checdk out the local supermarkets and sort it all out
Thanks again0 -
When I moved I found my local Iceland extremely helpful & they saved big boxes for me. I was told they had to collapse them, something to do with health & safety I think, but this made them easier for me to carry home. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
That's fine i don't mind them being flat packed, it will be easier to store them until they are filled
Thanks0 -
I know people who got boxes from these guys
http://www.a1box.co.uk/acatalog/
0

Thanks - I had already looked at these and although they are the same price as others - I refuse to spend that much money on boxes, lol. For the amount of boxes we need I could buy a tumble dryer instead
Thanks though0 -
Macdonalds Fries boxes are by far the best.
They recycle all their boxes, but flat pack them and store them out the back, so go on a day when it isn't raining. Talk nicely to the manager and they normally say help yourself. I have done this for the last several house moves and had boxes from leeds and loughborough (still have loads in the loft with junk in).
Be picky and go back a few days running if the ones they have are grease stained or in poor condition.
Size wise they are fantastic as when full of books or whatever they are about the max weight that you can easily carry. They store well and are easy to asseble. They can also be stacked easily in the back of a van.
Hope this helps
