Hi, my elderly parents are due to come on holiday with us soon, the problem is the insurance. My dad is 70 and fit, my mother is 66 a smoker, and has a diagnosis of high blood pressure and asthma occasionally, her symptoms are well managed and she has never been hospitalised. If they do not take extra cover for these ailments does the ordinary insurance still cover everything else should anything happen. I mean falls or bites etc.
thanks
                thanks

Yes sure (as long as it's not connected in any way).
The simplest thing is to take insurance without cover for pre-existing conditions.
This is something of a risk and you have decide whether you are willing to take that risk, but it's what we have decided to do.
We have recently used Egg because they go up to 85/86.
Egg offer a discount if you pay with your Egg card.
They also allow you NOT to insure baggage if it's covered on your home insurance.
Don't know how they compare price wise, but it's excellent if you have people in their 80s.0

thanks, i know it is a risk but she has had these problems for years and fortunately we have been lucky, having said that we have always taken out the extra cover, but this year they have had to renew both passports also and it is really expensive for them, whatever happened to visitors passports, much fairer for the elderly.0

Off topic but have you considered applying for pension credit for them?
My husbands parents (that I look after financially) got pension credit with about £25K savings so it might be worth considering.0
