We won a signed guitar which arrived snapped and they just said they couldn't do anything. I guess it depends on the company and the availability of the goods.

If any prize arrives damaged it is always a good idea to take a photo of the item in its original packing (in the box or envelope) that way you have some proof. Any blame actually lies with the courier company if the item is damaged in transit. Unless they can prove the item was damaged before they picked it up from the senders. It doesn't matter if you have won a prize of paid for an item you should still be covered by the same rules.
