Are EON really that bad?

Hi Moneysavers!

Just been through the process to go for a capped tariff (in light of recent news of possible rises this winter!) and EON come out best; they're more or less the same as we're paying now, but cap until October 2009 and won't charge early cancellation fees leaving us the option to change early if we need to.

The thing that's putting me off is the poor reviews on Moneysupermarket. I'm not sure that these reviews are a good representation, as people are unlikely to write reviews if they've had service as expected -- nothing more, nothing less.

If you're with EON could you let me know what sort of service I can expect? Both positive and negative comments would be welcomed so I can get some idea of whether I should go with their deal? Thanks!

Cheers!

You'll find details of my recent experience with EON here:

I'd been with them, and their predecessors who they bought/took over, etc, for more years than I care to say. Sadly the way they treated me on leaving means I'd certainly think twice before returning!

I've been with them a year or so with no problems, always read my meter ( unlike Powergen who NEVER did) using an online billing tariff so no paper bills but can download if I wish

we actually received a small credit when Eon took over as powergen had routinely estimated bills even when we supplied the readings!!

We at the moment due to still oweing Eon too much money dont have the option to switch companies now which is sad but true. We will probably have to see if we can cap with them which might help somewhat and will be better than nothing.

Overall the service has been good so far but if you fall behind there collections team is not the most kind but issues were resolved fairly quickly. I can say that if I did a search and they came up the cheapest I would not have a problem with using them. Will just be nice when I have the choice again!

Powergen were EON since 1st July 2002. Eon decided to drop the Powergen brand 2 years later.

I`ve been with Eon since they were east midlands electricity and changed from BG when I could. I have never had a problem with them. I always pay monthly, I always give my meter readings if meter not read so have had very few if any problems with them.

Been with them 2 years or so (online tarriff) and I think they are quite good. Call centre is UK-based, answered promptly and staff helpful.

I've also been with EON for about 3 years and never had a problem with them. Am thinking about going the capped route also.

I'm with them. I would not recommend them.
