Bellas having her first season

Hi!
Bella our 8 month old springers first season has started.
I wasn't expecting it too happen so soon but shes started this morning bless her.
I know she has to be lead walked now but for how long exactly?
Any other things we need to be doing for her?
Thanks!

    Hi Jummy,

When my springer had her 1st season I kept her on the lead for the whole time which i think was about 4 weeks. I know she went off her food at the time but i can't remember to much else, other than watch your carpets if they are light in colour.

    All the best

She won't actually be receptive to male dogs until after she has stopped bleeding, but is likely to be rather nervous about the attention she attracts from now. Dogs are annoyingly persistent and won't give her any peace if they meet her out walking or in a park. I used to walk my lady-dog late in the evening and avoid parks altogether. Also make sure your garden is secure - that other dogs can't get in and she can't escape if the fancy takes her!
She may be quite hormonal and touchy, too!
