How often are your fuel direct debits recalculated?

I am with Scottish Power and have recently they seem to have started 'reasessing' my monthly payments every 3 months. Needless to say they have gone up each time. The first time, after a 20% hike in the monthly payments I phoned them up and got them to reduce the increase. However they just seem to have put it up even more this time around. My account is now about £180 in credit which is rediculous for this time of year, generally we are in credit about £40 this time of year. Apparently this 3 monthly reassesment is to 'save' me from nasty big bills.

Are other providers doing this?Or can I switch supplier and get away from it? It seems a bit of a money make exercise on their part to me.

npower do it once a year. if i dont agree with the amount i phone them and we usually find a compromise.i always get told the "computer" adjusts DD amounts automatically.

British Gas reduced my DD by £10 per month, sure enough 3 months later I was £30 in debit. I had set the DD level to account for fluctuations over 12 months, seemed too advanced for them!
