I agree, £40 is very reasonable for a credit check.
If you really want to avoid paying, then you could offer to show them your bank statements from the last few months and see if that would be sufficient - it was for my LL. You can always use a black marker to block out certain transactions you didnt want them to see.Don't pay off your student loan quicker than you have to.0 -

BB my answer was totally about BTL mortgages and thank you to rugged toast, always good to know real situations.
But I agree and realise that LL letting out houses on residential mortgages they can ill afford is wrong. I daresay with the introduction of TDS there will be a lot more crossing checking available (and carried out) for the tax man and the lenders.0
