walking route from Paddington station to science museum

Hi folks,

I'm flying to Heathrow next week to go to legoland with our 7yr son. We have 2 days free and on one of them we would like to go to the science museum.

I know we can get a train from Terminal 5 ( we are staying in a hotel just 2 miles from Heathrow) to Paddington Station and the science museum is just 1.5 miles from the station. I've been on google maps but they seem to only give car routes and I don't think that would be the same for us walking. Can anyone give me walking directions from Paddington to the musem. Also how long would it take us at a normal walking pace;) ..............thanks:j

multimap.co.uk gives walking routes. If you are getting a train in, why not get the underground instead and go to South Kensington, the Piccadilly line runs from T5 to South Ken, all the museums are nearby (Nat Hist, Science, V&A). 5-10 year olds travel free on tubes and buses. If you get a travelcard you can use it for the day on all tubes and buses too.
    Not even wrong

There are two train services from the airport into London. The Heathrow Express to Paddington is faster (and more expensive!). But there is also a tube line (the Piccadilly) which would take you closer to the Science Museum - get off at South Kensington.

If you decide to go to Paddington, call up the route on Google Maps, ignore the blue (driving route) line and you'll see the Science Museum is a straight walk through Hyde Park.

Normal walking pace is 3-4 mph, so it would take about half an hour. (Longer if you stop to feed the ducks!)

    EDIT:.....great minds think alike!

The route may include walking across Hyde Park which may be of interest.

You buy the TC at the station or online.

Here are a couple of websites to help you more:

Last trains are approx. 11.30pm - 12am. This depend on the Line, station and the day of week.

Full details can be found from here:
    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/1129.aspx
Select the pdf file for the Line that you want to travel. Look up the day (e.g. Sat or Sunday) and the boarding station and that's the time of the last train leaving that station.

Don't forget to check the next train's last running time if you need to change from one line to another.

Don't forget to check out the London 2 for 1 offers. e.g.

sometimes it's worth to get a cheap train ticket in order to benefit from the discounts!

    Have a great time :)

from paddington to the science museum is a pleasant and easy walk. Just head south for Hyde Park. The middle entrance is what you want and its right opposite Lancaster Gate Station, so ask anyone for how to get to the station. Walk through the middle of the park and along (called the ring) and over the serpentine lake. Keep going straight and onto Exhibition road. The science museum is at the bottom of Exhibition road. The distance is 1.3 miles.

however if you choose the slower route but nearer station of South Kensington then you just have to cross the busy cromwell road.

If you go to the TfL website journey planner, choose 'advanced options' and then right down the bottom of the page, increase the maximum walking time to 60 minutes, then it will give you a walking route, and maps that you can print if needed.

There is no need to cross any road walking from South Kensington station, just follow the signs along the long subway to an exit next to the museum.

Just did this last week and the science museum is signposted within the south ken tube station, as tim says above you walk along a subway for about 5 mins and you're there, couldn't be simpler.

I'd recommend if you're having lunch nipping across to the victoria and albert if it's a nice day. There's an outdoor cafe in their central square and the tea rooms off it are amazing!! There's a pool type thing where you are allowed to paddle (good if sore feet from the museum).
