DFS Sofas

I'm thinking of buying a couple of sofas from DFS. I'm a little perturbed by their naff marketing, constant discounting and I know little on the quality of their products.

So I wonder has anyone managed to get additional discounts at the point of ordering? Also what are your experiences with them as a company? How about their quality of their sofas? Any advice would be really useful.

Thanks

Have you tried SOFA SOFA which we have just bought from. They are an amalgamation of 6 independent furniture manufacturers that market their products together.

Like the old saying goes, "you gets what you pay for". Personally I would not touch with bargepole, but do understand that for alot of people, expensive furniture is out of the question.

  • I bought a large 3 seater sofa about 7 years ago from DFS and at the time paid about £600/£700. I was a little disappointed when it started sagging within a year or two of buying it (especially as it was only being sat on by two normal weight adults!).

Having said that, I still have it and it hasn't got noticeably worse since the original sagging.

I will be replacing it soon as we are re-decorating and will probably sell it on ebay with no reserve. It would be ideal in a family/playroom or for a student flat. My point is that it has not remained good enough to ask for much for it. When we replace it I might look at DFS for inspiration but I doubt if I will buy another sofa from them.

DFS & other stores that sell on a heavy 'discounted' price, then ply you with 'free' credit, are not where I'd shop. (Not that I liked the look of many of their sofas, last time we were looking.

Better off with a genuine, up front price & discount, 'cos it REALLY is end of line/range or whatever.

& second time of mentioning, today, IKEA - if you apply for their store card, you get 5% off 1st purchase.

Worst customer service I have EVER experienced was at DFS in Hove while trying to buy a sofa-bed. The salesman could not care LESS and was trying to fob us off and get us to 'come back tomorrow'... He was hovering on the boundary of being downright rude and if it hadn't been the ONLY sofa-bed I'd found in the south-east which would fit in a very specific gap (and hence had no choice but to buy from DFS), I would have walked out there and then. Got fed up with them trying to deliver it and muck us about that I turned up with brother in laws transit van and collected it myself.

Will NEVER EVER go near DFS again, if only for the apalling way I was treated. I hear they have financial troubles... good, I hope they go bust.

Oh, and yes, the sofabed DID fit the gap, but has sagged quite a lot and never been particularly comfortable. Average at best.

    Sorry, rant over.

We bought our DFS sofa nearly new on ebay.
It's very comfy but I'd agree with earlier poster that quality is no more than average. Some of the stitching isn't quite right and the leather has a plasticky coating which looks a bit cheap. Still pleased with it at ebay price though :->
