What employment prospects?
there is a reason why virtually no-one lives there.Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.0 -
Ok, but what about commuting to the mainland?
So what you are saying is you need money to live there??

I didn't think you could commute to the mainland to work... I thought there was a boat you could catch when the weather's OK.
Which island?0 -
Sheep farming. Not much profit in it now.
Knitting fairisles, Aran jumpers. My friend buys Shetland wool hanks (direct from Shetland ) and knits hats to sell in Dorset.
Writer. Write a novel...lots of peace and quiet.
Are you for real or winding us up?? No offence but I didn't think there was any BTL in Shetland to rent out.0 -
If you got a job in Aberdeen, it takes approx 12 hours to commute to Lerwick.
A few jobs here to save you all that time on a ferry

Does the OP actually know where the Shetlands *ARE*???
They are a good 100 miles off the north-east coast of the northernest tip of Scotland. So if you go a chopper it's a 100 mile commute to the mainland, and then your.... well to be frank then your slap bang in the middle of f**king no-where.
I mean, seriously, dude.... DUDE!

Ok. Yes I do know where Shetland is.
The seagull rendition was interesting.
I am looking to do a house swap with a resident there. They rent their property from their local housing association & incidently, I rent my house from a housing association in my area. Obviously, I'm trusting they are genuine.
Have been reading the local newspaper website.
I gather people who live there either have lots of spare cash or live off benefits?0 -

And what do you plan to do there?
