Transferring Files from XP to Vista

Hi
I did a backup of my documents on XP and installed them onto my lappy which runs Vista. None of the files are legible so there must be something I need to do/check so that I am able to transfer data as and when. Anbody put me right on this please

What type of Documents?

MS Word/Excel, what?

What are you looking to move? If it is just plain Word or other documents, pick up a cheap USB thumb drive or two to move them across. If you're trying to move something odd, we'll need to know what it is.

Odd, thats all you need to do. You say "None of the files are legible ", in what way?
Are they encrypted or you are getting somthing along the lines of "you are not the owner of these files"?
Have you installed MS Office/ Adobe Reader / other required software?

I have MS Word & Adobe 8 installed
Not legible ie.... Encrypted

Ok, just get a cheap, off-the-shelf USB thumb drive. Ones that claim they encrypt your data are overkill for this application. 128mB is more than enough for this use, but you might want to get a larger one for further use. They are reusable and extremely small.

Encrypted then how / what did you use, truecrypt? Without that software there is no way you can read them, thats what it does....

Jus backed up off XP tried to restore it onto my laptop and this is what I get
