Who are better? ASDA or Tesco?

Hey folks, I'm currently in the process of moving house and so will soon be within the catchment area for grocery delivery from these 2 stores. So could some kind person tell me which of these 2 stores are the best for online vouchers etc?

TIA

I tend to switch between both, depending on the voucher situation :) I havent paid for my shopping to be delivered in a year and normally get £10 vouchers from tesco (£15 if really lucky ;)) Asda are doing free delivery in my area just now as my local store is being refurbished but they do £10 vouchers which i use when i shop instead.

Enjoy both and use and abuse them via vouchers ;):)

As a business analyst, I can tell you that Tesco are "officially" the no 1 retailer in the UK but they're only there because Asda (with their massive Wal-Mart financial backing) haven't chosen to wipe them out...............yet.

It's a very touchy subject with Tesco corporate bods! They know they're only at the top of the ladder until Asda decide to knock them off!

Any advice that you receive from me is worth exactly what you paid for it. Not a penny more or a penny less.

Asda is okay and probably cheaper on branded goods and their fresh bread is lovely. also, their clothes are cheap but not chearful, especially the childrens clothes. However, I do not find their fresh fruit, veg meat etc of very good quality. I use Asda for a quick 'bread and milk' shop. (Nb Our Asda is medium to large in size). Asda does not offer any eward scheme.

better fresh produce. Their clothes are also good. However, after seeing so many programmes about them, I'm abit sceptical about the company as a whole. Apparently, they're the second biggest employer in Britain after the NHS. (We have a large Tesco).

Fortunatley, we also have a Sainabury nearby and I find their shopping experience the most 'pleasurable' and theiproduce the best.

Hope the move all goes well.

Why not add a poll to this post - the results might be interesting.

We shop at Asda, but I would recommend you alternate between the two - you will get more variety in your foods that way, as I'm sure there are some foods which are only sold by one (or which you wouldn't like from one).

I prefer Asda (marginally) as it seems to have more choice than Tesco (they seem to have more of a smaller number of items in my experience)

...but then I don't actually do the shopping for our house (I am the consumer not the purchaser)
  • Register with both online and don't use them for a while and they should send you email vouchers to entice you to shop with them. Sainsbury and Ocado (Waitrose) also do home grocery delivery if you are lucky enough to be in their catchments I would do the same with them too!
I switch between Asda and Tesco, depending on what vouchers I know of, but Tesco seem to be clamping on the sharing of voucher codes, and will simply not use them on your actual bill, without explanation (promising an email that never arrives).

i've never used Adsa delivery before, but I do prefer Shopping instore at Tescos'

I have just received a £10 off a £50 shop for Adsa, so I might give them a whirl.

I did have a look at the Asda site once, as the delivery slot i required was full for Tescos. I found the Adsa site harder to navigate around, but thats maybe because I;m not used to it.

I love that Tesco's that you can earn clubcard points, and also whatever you have brought and scanned instore will show up as your favourites. cos everyone has the same few items that they get every week.

Find Asda, better in store than Tesco, have both locally of equal size.

Tesco range is not as varied price wise as Asda, but may find different items or "new" brands at Tesco first.

Tesco offers points, but branded goods more expensive and they do not accept as many money off vouchers as Asda (in my experience) plus I tend to add match items from leaflets quite a lot at Asda, which sometimes amazes the cashiers!!!!

Not tried the delivery service yet, at Asda have only just started deliverying to my area ( you would have thought they would have got it sorted before being in 2 v large asda catchment areas in 2nd city in uk!!!) but may have a go soon as they r discountin delivery mid week at moment.

I use both, ASDA tend to be cheapest overall, and in my view are miles ahead of Tescos in terms of customer service (and the other supermarkets). However, Tesco's do lots of good points offers such as 200pts off a dvd or the beef and gravy points offer,(combined with the 4 times value of clubcard deals they are jolly decent offers), etc, and often the comparable product tends to be slightly better in tescos.

I also use Morrisons whenever I can, they have stacks of BOGOF's many more than the other stores, and have easily the best fish and meat counters (in the stores I have been to), especially the fish counters which really is very good indeed. (edit : 'I'd agree with Ben500, in that the customer service counter is weak in Morrisons').

Use Sainsbury a little but they tend to be a bit more expensive, but they do have some quality products, the own brand quiche's, ice creams, etc are first rate and way ahead of the competitors for instance.

Never used online though this is just my experience of stores.

To be brief Tesco for quality Asda for customer service and price sainsbury for presentation and shopping experience, Somerfield/morrisons if you don't give a sh*t and just want to get the shopping done

I don't often venture to Asda as it's a bit of a hike. I do like their takeaway curries though. Great value for £5.70 meal for 2, I had one tonight - not all to myself :p .

I hate to say this but the Asda I went to today does seem to attract a rougher element. i.e. if you are in the queue for Pizza or Takeaway and dare to leave child in queue to have a look at what's available so you can get your order in quickly, you get shirty remarks and dagger looks as if you are intending to push in. Have to say wouldn't argue with most of them with their poker straight stiff hair with big blonde bit on (and that's just the blokes!). Also the mothers try to dress the same as their teenage daughters. Teenage daughter without a middle roll and fat !!!!!! look fine in low slung jeans with their thong showing (well okish) where as the mothers with their jeans sitting on their hips cos they have no choice - there is no way they would make it up any further ;) and their strappy vest t-shirts with completely different colour bra staps showing just look
