    hmmm..

did the OP pay deposit on CC... did the TO take the balance via the same CC..

You are up there for thinking Markymoo, I had not considered that the travel company probably took the balance from the credit card used to make the deposit. I should have realised this might be the case, as I booked Globespan flights last year and only a desposit was charged. I rang them up and they assured me that they would take the remaining balance off my card nearer the time, without any further action from me ( which they did).

Like you say, the travel company have probably received their money in full and therefore have issued the tickets.

i have to agree with Incapuppy. in my day job i give out free appointments to see surgeons, but we have had to start asking for credit card security because people who change their mind cannot be courteous and let us know. because it's not costing them anything, they don't give a t*** who it affects.

the OP is basically saying she couldn't be bothered to cancel, which would have opened up a holiday for someone else, and not cost the travel company revenue. now she wants people to say, 'yeah, go for it. have a freebie on the travel company'.

i know the travel company is being a bt slack, but this is a moneysaving site, not a how to get something for nowt at the expense of someone else site.

sorry if that sounds harsh

Well if this isnt classed as 'money saving' I dont know what is, what person in their right mind wouldnt except 'something for nothing'. If Tour Operators inadvertently issue tickets without receiving payment its their own costly mistake, they should surely have tighter procedures in place!

I also work in an industry were appointments are made daily, and to avoid time wasters both telephone calls and correspondence are issued to ensure appointments are kept. If no contact can be made, appointments are automatically cancelled, which, as stated in my initial post has also been the case in the past dealing with tour operators.

mmmmm maybe I'll go with my own gut instinct on this one. Either way if I go or not I still may have to pay.

Sorry me dear, this is not classed as moneysaving

What would have happend if you had checked your card balance, and you was in debt for around £1000 (just a guess) because the holiday company had taken of you, the balance for the holiday.

You would have been on here, going mad and wanting to know what to do about it.

As you say it is up to you, but it is one heck of a big gamble to take.

It's not like paying for a £200 telly and being delivered a £300 telly.

With regard to the fact that you feel you are entitled to take something you have not paid for, because of slack procedures- I wonder if you would also think a person was entitled to take your property if you did not lock your door properly or zip up your bag?

I do agree that you should go on holiday, as you will have to pay for it, but I think you would be taking a great risk going without sorting out payment. You do not know the laws in Jamaica and I believe they are harsher than here. Your insurance may be invalid and you may spend the whole holiday waiting for the axe to drop. Honesty in this case really is the best policy-ring Direct holidays and sort it out and I am sure you will have a great holiday.
  • Hi there just wondering if you are going to travel to Jamaica or not.
We booked an holiday to Cyprus back in Jan 08 to travel July 08. We paid £100 deposit, but in April 08 we had to cancel. The strange thing is we have just received a phone call from travel agents confirming our tickets are available for collection. We would love to go to collect them but what if!!.......

    Any answers???

    Thanks.

I hope you cancelled in writing and have prove of delivery
  • I work for an online travel agents and what happens when the tickets come in, is they are given to dispatch who then go through the computer, enter it on the booking tickets sent, which marks the tickets as sent on the system so if someone rings to ask where they are we can see exactly when they were dispatched....now if this happened with us we would see the booking hadnt been paid for, there would be an outstanding balance on the top and it would flag questions etc...

so surely a human must have gone onto their system to send them and it didnt look like there was a problem...somehow..

does the website you booked on have a tab where u can log on and see your booking? there may well be some clues on there, you would at least see if your booking had outstanding balance or a history attached to it etc.

I am not sure what to think about the moral aspects of this to be honest....I mean people are saying how can you accept something you havent paid for...but if they shopped online from sainsburys etc and got something extra in their shopping would they ring up and say I didnt pay for this etc...I know we are talking about way more money but the principles etc...also how many times do we see on here, tv's listed for silly money etc and everyone saying quick its a pricing error but see if you can get a bargain...we all know it isnt correct but try to take the company over etc...is this really any different?
