Has the bottom fallen out of financial market

I'm asking this for a reason. 5 yrs ago, we took out a Nationwide Guaranteed Equity Bond which is due to mature in1 yr. We knew from the start that the profits may fall or rise. The profits are based on the average of 4 Indexes (FTSE, S&P,NIKKEI &DJ EURO). For 4 yrs the average was in the plus figuires. Last years was 19.48%. This year, it has fallen to minus 14.54%. This seems like a huge drop and we wondered if this was the same for all bonds. We understand that we could lose some profits (although the plan guarantees at least 10% growth) but I just wanted to check if this sounds correct.
