Good hotel in Guangzhou, Canton , China

OH is going to Hong Kong on business at the end of October and has just been told by his boss to get a visa and go across the border to Guangzhou in China. He will need a room for one night for himself and two colleagues , BUT where do we begin to search for hotels ? Anyone have any personal knowledge of the area ? Hope someone can help , thanks.

I would go 5 star only its not too expensive anyway depending on time of year from 40-80 pounds maybe even less. Your best bet is probably to book last minute through a hong kong travel agent. The best but not always cheapest is probably CTS (china travel services) they have branches everywhere pretty much. You can do this when you get to HK that what most ppl do in HK anyway book hotel then take trian over or bus on the same day. The hotels i would reccommend are china hotel by marriot and Garden hotel both are very nice it all depends on what location you would want. Garden is a bit better located i think.

Although the trian is the normal choice for travellers to get there i would reccommend the coach as it drops you off right outside the hotels as opposed to the trian station which can be quite scary....

Arriving by train is bad enough, but LEAVING by train was one of the most stressful things I have ever done. Thousands of people, apparently hundreds of trains, queues everywhere, can't read a word of the language, being trampled by a 4'6" granny with a bag bigger than herself, more queues, swept along with the rush for the barrier when it opened .... and then 36 hours on the train, still hoping I was on the right one and going north!

Hi I have stayed in the following hotels before and they are quite good:
    - China Hotel Guangzhou (5-star) - Quieter surrounding, about 650 HK Dollars
    - Hotel Landmark, Canton (4-star) - With beautiful view of the Pearl River and numerous illuminated high rise buildings, about 420 HK Dollars

I booked through China Travel Service in Hong Kong (there are many branches in Hong Kong)

I too preferred taking the coach from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, it took about 3 hours but it's quite comfy and arrives the above two hotels directly.
  • Hi

I am staying at the Country Garden Holiday Resorts

    Booked it through: http://www.sinohotel.com/hotel/hotel.html?hid=1794

$110 for a triple room Inc buffet breakfast

Much cheaper than the 5 star hotels like the China hotel plus they could not accommodate 3 of us in same room.

A little further out maybe but most hotels have a free shuttle bus to both exhibitions.

Also might be worth checking out this forum for travel and general tips: http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g298555-i3651-Guangzhou_Guangdong.html

There's a decent Marriott in Guangzhou, my brother lives there and recommends it to travellers and his mates when they visit. They sometimes do offers, if there's no trade fairs on.

Holiday Inn City Centre is also nice (lets just say its not how you imagine a Holiday Inn to be in the UK!)
